Tell Microsoft. They'll most likely repair it under warranty. My cousin had the same problem and they took care of it quickly.

So, my girlfriend just got a zune, mostly because we thought since it's microsoft that means it's guaranteed to work with Vista, which she has on her new computer. She's been trying to get it to work all afternoon to no avail. The device is found, and works for a minute, but then it gets an error code 10 (in the device manager). We've tried uninstalling it, and uninstalling and reinstalling the program, etc, but can't get it to work. It just works for a minute or two and then boots itself off the computer when the computer gets that error. What do we do?

Edit: Nevermind... It turns out after hours of looking, she found the problem. I installed some drivers a while back to use the PS3 controller on that computer, and apparently those fuck with the zune :(

So, my Zune program has two really bad issues:
    1) When I put soundtracks on it, instead of creating ONE album and containing all the various artists under it, it creates MULTIPLE albums titled the same thing, one for each different artist. You can see why this is FUCKING RETARDED.
    2) It also assigns the wrong Album Art to alot of my music.

A third, less as bad issue: I have a decent amount of Japanese music that my 360 cannot detect from my computer. It's no big deal, just wanted to fix it.

    ANY HELP APPRECIATED. ALL CAPS.

Check the "Album Artist" in the list view in ZuneSoftware. Which you can singularly edit in Zune, or mass tag edit in Winamp, or use that mp3tag thing. I honestly think ZuneSoftware is one of the worst music library programs I've ever used. Doesn't see add some files no matter what, no mass edit, kinda crappy podcast sync option, doesn't retrieve correct/full album info for cd's unless you run as admin, and even then doesn't work all the time, and had trouble ripping a few of my cd's. I really don't like the zune software, and I think I had that static issue, because mine would randomly reset itself during the work day for no reason.

edit: add the album art to each songs tags in winamp, and usually it forces it that way.

Media Player is a great place to edit tags as well.

I found a new place to buy things from the USA and it seems awesome (And looks like it could save me some money), so I may finally cave and get a Zune but I want to get a case with it (Or how scratch/mark resistant is the Zune80 ?) -- any recommendations?

I do fancy the 'official' case:
    205857050.jpg
But mostly because of how it looks as that type of case may annoy me..

Also, what's the cheapest USA store to buy the Zune from?

The zune, like the ipod, is priced locked at MSRP.

The only way to get a "discount" is to buy one that is
    a) refurbished
    or
    b) a company like bestbuy or circuit city that gifts you a gift card w/ your purchase.

My reply.. disappeared? Anyway, either way, it doesn't look like I'll be able to save a noticeable amount on the Zune so I think I'll just go with BestBuy which is like $239.99 and they also have the case for $15.98.

Is this a mistake? It says it costs $0.01. If not, I think I'll get that, the case and the travel pack thing.

Ok. I'm pretty sure Vista hates the Zune software or my Zune software hates me.

About a week and a half ago, podcasts stopped working. Oh, they'll download all the way, but once they hit 100%, this is the error I get. "Can't download this episode. There could be a temporary network outage or a problem with the podcast feed. Error Code: C00D1316." The official forums are a joke. I've a) uninstalled the Zune software and reinstalled it. b)Unsubscribed and deleted all podcasts then surfed the Zune marketplace and added the podcast and it still didn't work. c) cried bitter tears. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open.

If I were you, just download the podcasts from the web and then add them to your library from there. I dunno if that'd work, or if they'd still go into the podcast folder, but it may be a temporary solution.

Yeah, that's what I started doing last night. I hate using iTunes, but until I can work it out, it'll do. The only problem (ok, the OTHER problem) is some podcasts don't have the "Podcast" tag. But I found out that, should you wish to add the podcast tag to an mp3, that mp3 is now in the podcast directory. And since the Zune does bookmarking on podcasts and not straight mp3s, should anyone have long audio book mp3s, this will allow bookmarking on those files. Did that make any sense?

Tag files as 'podcast' to allow bookmarking on non-podcast things where it may be useful?

Another thing, podcasts do not have the 3play limitation when shared.

So if you tag all of your music as "podcast" you can share it all? Not that anyone ever will. Maybe Rockbox will make good use of the wi-fi.

As far as I'm aware, yeah. Are they working on Rockbox for the Zune?

I'm waiting for my Zune2 80 (With an Original engraving thing). :( The order [within the US] was placed on the 18th, so I need to wait for it to be shipped to the person in the US (However long that takes) and than for it to be shipped to Australia -- sigh, so much waiting but at least I'll finally have it.

I also got that leather case and the travel kit. I'm hoping the current FM transmitter I have will work well.

So, Zune 2.5 update is out (software and firmware.) Adds a bunch of new stuff, including TV shows on Marketplace, but also an INBUILT METADATA EDITOR! (For both video and audio, so tagging TV Shows and having them appear in the proper order on the device is a lot easier.)

Yeah, about time too. Firmware update also added gapless playback, which is pretty sweet as well, and scrolling feels a tad more responsive.

(Neat touch I noticed with the Zune Software: when playing a song and minimized, instead of just saying "Zune" on the task bar it changes between the song title, artist, and album.)

Just tested it, and that's how it works. It only updates the metadata, doesn't require reencoding it.

EDIT: Also, if you have a lot of video, the software gives the option to encode it for optimal Zune playback or TV playback (if you connect your Zune to the TV).

My Zune isn't automatically updating (the software and the device). The software just says the device is up to date with version 2.3.

Do I need to download version 2.5 and install it to get my firmware to update? Will doing this force me to resync all of my content to my Zune (that's what I usually have to do when I reinstall the software, as far as I can remember)?
