Smart way to get people to sign up and use Zune if you ask me, even if it is just their default audio player for the device. I am just surprised that they are not coupling Zune with their OS...

yeah, Zune really ought to be integrated more closely with, or just made part of the same program as Windows Media Player

also I hate to say it, but I am unlikely to buy a Zune phone unless it promises a vastly different experience than Windows Mobile and gives me a good reason to drop my Android device.

Yeah, I had heard there was more likely to be a Zune app for Windows Mobile than a stand alone "Zune Phone". I imagine when WM7 comes out, it will be included.

so i just bought a zune today... was gonna pick up the 80gb but apparently they got rid of that so yay 40 more gigs for the same price! I don't have that much now but if i ever become anything like i was before my old computer crashed last year i can easily fill that with music...

Anyway a few quick questions... anyway to get the software to find album info before i rip a cd?You know, except for the ones it randomly decides it already knows... i've just been ripping and then finding album info once it's done... also is there anyway to get it to auto put the untitled track 1 with the titled track number once i find the album info without having to one by one associate each track with their titles?

EDIT: oh yeah and what's the value of signing up an account?

I believe (and I can't say for sure since I don't use the Zune software to rip my CDs since I prefer a bit more customization than they offer) if you don't set the software to auto-rip, and click the CD at the bottom left when you insert a disc, you can see if it IDs it or not, and change anything you need first.
I just tried this and I am correct. If it doesn't show the tag immediately, give it a sec, it doesn't warn you that it's searching.

I believe it only auto-assigns the newly found info if it matches perfectly, otherwise it asks for you input first before making any changes. So no, it won't automatically put the track title in for "untitled track 1".

Having an account allows you to show off your Zune Card (spoiler in my sig), sign up for a Zune Pass, and purchase music off their store. I don't think there are any other reasons.

Also, if you have a zune, Get a zune pass, or at least the free 15 days. The Zunepass is really the big thing they have that the iPod doesn't, and it's lots of fun :)

now that i think about it i had just been hitting the "disk" option up at the top of the software so i'll try out the cd icon at the bottom.

And is the zune pass a stream as many songs as you want for x amount of time type deal? i'll probably set it up right before break is over so i can go back to school and actually make use of it instead of just sitting around at home with no real excuse to use an mp3 player

The ZunePass is pretty straight forward - $14.99/mo, download unlimited amount of songs + keep 10 each month. Unsubscribe from the pass, and you lose the songs.

Keep in mind that digital songs are .99cents each...so the pass is basically $5 since you can keep 10 songs now.

It also let's you mark and download songs from the wifi marketplace on your device and directly what you hear from the radio. Well worth it, in my opinion.

Laying in bed and browsing the Marketplace from the Zune while streaming another album at the same time is beyond awesome.

It only just occurred to me the other day that this was possible.

I'm Contemplating getting rid of my iPod for a Zune. I'm pretty much 100% sold, I'm just wondering how I can get the most out of it once I get it out of the box. Right now I use my iPod for listening to music, and that's about it. I'm fully aware that the Zune can do that, but can I use it in cunjunction with my computers and Xbox to do neat stuff?

I'm moving up from the (previous gen) nano to one of those 120gig Zunes, so I'm really stoked to be able to watch videos and stuff, too.

If you enable Media Sharing on your PC in the Zune software, you can then connect to it from the 360 (provided they are both on the same network), which will enable you to play your whole collection (Zune Pass'd and all) from within games and at the dashboard.

It can play the Zune Pass files since presumably, your Xbox Live gamertag is on the same account as your Zune subscription. It's glorious moments like these, when you buy in fully, that the DRM doesn't matter. Enjoy it. :P

Really, just subscribe to the Zune pass, and then just explore everything. Download podcasts (video and audio ones), watch some movies, explore music, and really, you'll find that you are using your zune to what it was for.

Yeah, Zune Pass is pretty much a necessity.

For me it's as much a part of the Zune as the hardware itself, without it there's really little reason to get a Zune over an iPod. Sure there's other subscription based music services out there, but none of them work on players you actually want to buy. And if they do, they probably don't have near the selection that Microsoft has seemed to acquire. It was awesome before the 10 songs/month, and now it's even better.

So what accessories are the best the Zune? I'm looking for something to strap it to me while I run, something to connect it to a TV, and a nice case for it. I'm open to anything else, but those are the ones I'd use most.

EDIT: Also, are the cases for the 80 a good fit for the 120? They seem to be the same size.

Okay the Zune is pretty awesome now. The 3.1 software is a vast improvement over 3.0, and the wireless marketplace stuff is awesome.

The only complaint I have now is the lack of a Quick List or whatever it used to be called. Now Playing is total bullshit.

*NOTE: I still have the original first gen Zune. It still works fucking phenomenally.

Quick list is gone? I didn't even notice. Rarely used it but it was good for work sometimes when I didn't want to keep having to take my Zune out and change albums.

And I've still got my first gen 30g too and it just keeps on going. The plastic exterior has held up SO much better over the past years far better than the old third-gen iPod I had previously. That thing looked beat the fuck up...scratched aluminum on the back, scratches on the front in white plastic showing up like nobodys business. Dont' get me wrong, my Zune doesn't still look brand new...far from it. It just doesn't look beat up, more like...well loved.

The more you listen to a certain song, Album, or artist, the more 'plays' it gets. 'Plays' are considered listening to a song past it's halfway mark. Listen to it enough times, you get bronze, silver and gold badges.

Also you can get them for doing other things like writing reviews. Click for my myspace and play with my zune card to see my badges.

Basically they are just a nifty little way of keeping track of everything.

something to connect it to a TV

You can buy the a/v cables for a digital camcorder to use to connect it to a TV through the headphone jack. Just get the headphone-sized -> RCA video cable. I can't remember because my labels have fallen off, but the Y/R/W connectors may not be labeled correctly. But it works, even if it's not labeled right. Cheaper than buying an official cable.

As far as a case, I got the skin from Best Skins Ever and it looks AMAZING if you get it on there right. I cut off the flap for the hold switch and headphone jack because it was too thin to stick easily, and I didn't put the squircle piece on, and you can't even see the skin on it looking casually. You only see it from the sides where it ended.

I just got back from driving to VA and back from NJ (6-8 hour trip, depending on traffic) and listened to my Zune all the way there and back. I can't wait to plug it in to my computer and see my play count jump. :)

afaik the only two ways are to either have a friend in the states with a us credit card and use theirs or go down to the states, mug someone, take their credit card and use it before its cancelled. i prefer the latter strategy myself.

Well, fuck, thats lame. I love how a big part of the advertising is WOW ZUNE PASS UNLIMITED MUSIC!!, but no where on the website does it say "Only available in the US". It doesnt even give me an error, it just flat out wont let me pick the option, whether through the software or the site. Hell the website even tells me "You can try it for 14 days!" but when i click on the link it tells me to try the software, which sends me back to the site with no option to subscribe. Christ, microsoft sure knows how to build some shitty sites.

However, i love my zune, and im just going to wait until its available here i guess, unless i can find some way to use it in the meantime.

Ok, I got me a brand new 120GB Zune, and it's pretty fun so far. I always enjoy busting out a new toy, customizing the crap out of it, and learning new software. I really like the social stuff the Zune has going for it.

Hey, I've got a question. Does anyone have one of the "Zune Orginals"? I'm thinking about getting one, as they're the same price as a normal Zune, and you get the custom engraveing. The only problem is I'm only going to be home for a month, and after that, I'll be overseas. Thankfully, the Zune pass still works...And also, I can't even go on the Zune Orginals site, as it won't let my Indian IP access.

Anyone know any info bout it?
