Gears of War coming to PC

deadonthestreetdeadonthestreet Registered User regular
edited July 2007 in Games and Technology
Gamevideos leaked that Gears of War is getting a PC port, to be announced at E3.

http://download.gamevideos.com/12828/gv.com.GearsofWarPCE3ActionMontageHD_1280x720.wmv if it is not taken down yet.

It apparently has extra content not in the 360 version.

So, is this really going to be Xbox redux, where most "exclusive" games actually get a PC release?

It was a neat game and all, but it seems designed for a controller. It'd feel clunky and slow on the PC.

I imagine you could use a 360 controller or other gamepad if you so wished.

    Link's dead.

I really want to play some more Gears online... though I don't feel like renewing my Live account for one game.

    Sneaky.

I bet the 'new content' will be available as DLC few months after the release.

Well damn. The video is tempting. Running silky smooth 60fps and looks like extra SP content! But yeah, Vista, probably not :|

the lack of story made sense from the perspective that you were just gears in a much larger machine... fulfilling your purpose but unaware of its implications or effects.

It didn't NEED a story, so long as you had orders to take.

That said, I hope they do draw the curtain back a bit for the inevitable sequel, and let us in a bit more on what exactly is going on. Losing access to the commanders and ahving to make decisions on their own would accomplish this rather easily.

Epic isn't a first party studio. I would be amazed if they released it as a Vista exclusive, and given how Epic has a history of standing up against Microsoft's stupid marketing decisions, especially so.

Also, Unreal Engine 3 games don't need DX10 to run.

edit: Epic representatives have been quoted as saying that this was only really a matter of time, so I'm not too surprised.

Xbox360 owners would be mightily pissed if the PC version had significantly more content and they didn't issue an update for current owners.

But there is a fair bit of information provided in the instruction manual concerning the story.

I at least wanted them to explain the few situational things such as the importance of returning to Marcus' house and why his dad had a huge lab in the basement.

For sure, Gears won't require Vista. or DX10. UT3 doesn't, and there's no reason that GoW would too. Besides, the only ones dumb enough publish games that require Vista is Microsoft -- and both of those games (Shadowrun and Halo 2) don't even use DX10.

Oh, and there's something interesting in my Nvidia control panel's application profiles that I've noticed for a few months now:

    GOW for PC.

One way to tell is the achievement notification is different on PC than on 360 (It pops up during the video).

Yeah, I noticed that after having messed around with H2V.

Anyway, Epic needs to hurry up and make an announcement of some sort. I assume Cliffy or Rein will make some post on the official forums first. I want to know the system specs ASAP.

awhile back 1up talked about some big 360 update that we were supposed to get for free full of new singleplayer content but microsoft said "no" so they never released it.

I bet this is it, and it will come with GoW PC and we will be able to buy it for 800 points on 360.

I dont know. Epic has been pretty fierce in trying to get free stuff out there. I reckon they will win that battle with MS especially at e3. Imagine how awesome it would be to announce the new SP content at their e3 presentation and be all 'you can go download this NOW for free during the e3 event' so like its free for that few days to get people on their 360s checking out the e3 content but then pay afterwards.

That youtube is almost certainly PC or developer based. Afaik the 360 version is locked at 30fps and that was definetly going higher.

I can never tell what the FPS of a game is, once it gets past the point of looking choppy it all looks the same to me, and Gears of War looked smooth already so I certainly didnt notice a difference in the PC video.

You cant tell exactly what it is, but you can definetly tell when its 30 and when its 60. 45-60 looks pretty much the same, while 25-45 looks the same too, noticably slower.

It's an awesome console game, but a mediocre computer fps. Really mediocre by comparison to even things that have been out for 5-6 years. The only upside will be if they release a dedicated server client that lets people host non-shit connection servers for the xbox360.

The whole diving, using cover, rolling around and using the roadie run works because an analogue stick can't follow or lead a target very well, making it feel way more awesome than it actually is.

With a mouse, with the current gamespeed, it will not be fun.

(I love it on the 360, and love me some computer FPS games.... so no, I'm not hating for no reason)

Yeah, unless you... aim... in first person?

What would you call it? action adventure? platform?

Having an over the shoulder view to use when you don't aim doesn't make it less of a first person shooter if all the aiming and shooting is done from the first person perspective.
