Seriously, what is wrong with some of you.

For not taking to this idea or for totally turning gay for capcom for it?

I'm just confused by the on-rails shooter hate, I guess.

It wouldn't be such a big deal if they released a real, actual RE game on the Wii. Yes, this might be a nice little aside for fans of the genre, and I can respect that. On PS2, if I wanted RE, I could just go ahead and ignore the Survivor games, and play one of the real ones. Wii owners are unable to do that.

RE4 isn't a real one now? It is a real RE game. It might not be part of the main storyline, but it is definitely a part of the series and continuity.

This goes with the notion that RE4 is a new game for the Wii. It is instead a PS2/GC port, with waggle action and aiming. It's not new by any means. Hell, you could say that since the system is backward compatible, every main story game of the RE series is on the Wii. I'm talking about something new and (preferably) exclusive to Wii.

And this game isn't it. I don't see why that should matter. Super Mario RPG isn't any less fun because it isn't part of the main Mario series. Final Fantasy Tactics isn't a numbered Final Fantasy game but most people love it. Ditto with Megaman Legends.

Gamecube had RE4 long before ps2 and pc got their (arguably inferior) ports, what's wrong with letting another console have the next major installment?

At least the wii is getting something. It seems like capcom is trying to play to the perceived strengths of the console. It looks like a fun pick-up and play game that makes very good use of the wii-mote. I hope it has more than just rehashed segments of the story so far, but even if it does I think it'll still be a lot of fun. It also looks like a blast to play with a friend, how many RE games so far can you say that about?

I could have sworn that the last time I looked into this game it was supposed to be chunks of old RE games redone in the RE4 engine.

Am I just making this up, or was that what this was originally supposed to be?

And even if it weren't an on-rails shooter, I don't like the trend that seems to be starting with the Wii. First RE, then Soul Calibur. It's like "the PS3 and 360 will get the real games, you guys can have...this."

as much as i've love to see more original titles for the Wii, i prefer this approach(at least in the way RE and Soul Calibur are being handled), than having PS3/360 version ported over with half-assed Wii controls tacked on.

Though some people seem to be a little disappointed in this, I'm freakin' pumped for it. Light gun games are awesome, and this looks like it'll just be pure zombie shooting fun without any pesky puzzles or having to move around myself, which I'm totally down for. Also, co-op ftw!

    Mmm...On-rail shooter...

Do you guys prefer the Time Crisis reload style where you duck from damage for a second to reload, or the more traditional style of shooting off screen?

RE5 started production when the PS3 was supposed to be a sure-fire hit, and the 360 already had a large installed base - and when the success of the Wii was up in the air.

RE4:WE and RE:UC are a result of Capcom coming to the realization that the Wii will be a huge success, and that they need to get good games out now while they work on more new, original, and awesome games for the system.

The ideal situation is not having Capcom make an RE game for the 360/PS3 and then downport to the Wii. The best situation is for Capcom to make great RE games for both the 360/PS3 and the Wii that each take advantage of the unique features of each system.

Also, who's to say that Soul Cal Legends will not be good? I think it sounds great and looks good. Maybe it will be the "Ninja Gaiden" of the Soul Cailbur games, who knows? (like how Ninja Gaiden is the action game taking Ryu from the DOA games; and by this I mean Itagaki's Ninja Gaiden, of which it is based on his DOA games, rather than being directly based on the original NES games. Yes, Itagaki took Ryu Hayabusa from the NES trilogy, totally changed him and put him in his fighting game series, then took him as he is in the DOA games and made the new NG games based on that. This is besides the point above, though.)

That's what I heard way back when the only thing we knew about the game was that we could shoot holes in doors.

I mean, the allure of a RE series summary with RE4 mechanics makes me want to talk about my X number of dicks ejaculating everywhere, etc.

I'd like to believe, and if they were just taking one character and focusing on them, I would run with it, but there are two things that make me think Soul Cal Legends will be bad:

    1) In the new EGM, the director expressed how he wanted to get all the characters into Legends, not necessarily playable, but in there. This screams of Shaolin Monks to me, shamelessly tossing in characters for cameo bits instead of focusing on the story and gameplay. Ninja Gaiden focused Ryu, and had what, one other DOA character, I think?

    2) I usually love to give the benefit of the doubt, and even though this idea smacks of Mythologies/Special Forces/Death by Degrees, I'd like to give it a chance. But the fact remains that it's coming from Namco. Who did Death by Degrees. Which was godawful.

It is just how everyone looks as Wii games as being simplified games of what they could be. If Mario Galaxy were to be simplified it would be a mini game combo game.

So... because a game that was announced as a lightgun game turned out to be a lightgun game, a 3D platformer by another company altogether will turn out to be a minigame collection.

Eh, all of the main Resident Evil games are playable on the Gamecube and hence the Wii plus the Wii even has the ultimate version of the most recent game. Given the massive sales of the Wii, I wouldn't be surprised if a Wii version of Resident Evil 5 is eventually released with scaled down visuals and waggle support. In the meantime, we get what looks to be an awesome light gun game complete with Resident Evil fan service galore. What's the problem again?

What? I'm pretty sure 90% of the people in this thread are masturbating all over it already. There have been like 2 or 3 people who don't care for light gun games, and they're getting stomped on pretty thoroughly.

But, I do have to ask -- why are people excited about light gun games on the Wii? Isn't this one genre which has been pretty well replicated on other platforms, thanks to first and third party peripherals dating back to at least the original NES? Is it the addition of nunchuck controls which has everyone so excited?

I'd buy a Wii if they released all the House of the Dead games on it. I'd probably only play 1 and 2 though.

Hot new RE:UC trailer shamelessly stolen from GAF.

Looks like they've fixed a lot of things that got panned in E3:
    * Zombies now react when shot on vital areas or are hurt badly
    * Flashlight portion of the game actually seems very thrilling since you can't see shit without flashlight.
    * Graphics seem definitely improved.

Thanks to the video, the interest meter definitely went up to 70% must buy for me.
If only the game isn't released close to other big titles, then it's a definite 100%.

Well, it's been mentioned as a feature since the beginning that you have some degree of freedom to 'look around' the area as you are moving along the rails of the game.

I think that you use the analog stick to look around if I'm remembering right. In fact, you can watch some hands on previews that show the players looking about while playing.

The thing that pops up and says "loading" is the reloading of the gun.

As in, when the user manually decides to reload the gun, it says that for the duration of the reloading. The user is causing that to pop up

You're forgetting Ghost Squad (or maybe you're not), but I'm looking forward to that as well.

I absolutely love rail shooters. I can't even begin to count the amount of coins I pumped into my local HotD2 arcade. Then I played it over and over again on the DC.
I'm just hoping the zapper will work as well as I hope it will, especially with the dodge sections that use the remote.

On a side note, anyone know if HotD4 is worth the coins? I was slightly disappointed in HotD3, but I noticed a local arcade had the new HotD cabinet. Had my trigger finger itching 8-)
