It'd be funny if the Skrull army was organized into squads, each with its own banner hero. There'd be a squad of Wolverines, a squad of Spider-mans, and so on.

Really, it'd be a lot like that force the evil, alternate future Rick Jones commanded in Avengers forever.

Well yes and no, he's certainly read a lot of older comics (his favorite Avengers story is Celestial Madonna.. weird choice) and while he's not Geoff Johns he does reference/homage past stories well enough, he just has a very particular style when it comes to writing dialogue.

I do think he does a better job of differentiating between Bendis character A and Bendis character B than say someone like Warren Ellis, whose characters all sound the same to me.

I'm not saying the man's perfect but there are very few times where I feel he's blatantly got a character dead wrong. You brought up Clint - I thought the Clint at the end of NA #39 was very consistently written.

Whedon is the same way, he has a very particular brand of dialogue and it's very easy to tell that Astonishing X-Men is a Whedon book, but he does a good job of adapting his particular Whedonspeak to each character so that they still sound like them.

I would agree with you that we don't really have much of a reference for how he writes Jan in particular.

the "Wolverine is in every book" whining is tiring, he's in way less books than Batman
    n....no he isn't

It's pretty close, and I never hear the same thing about Batman, so let's count.

Batman stars in the following books:
    JLA
    Batman
    Detective Comics
    Batman: Confidential
    All-Star Batman & Robin
    Batman & The Outsiders

    Wolverine stars in:
    New Avengers
    Wolverine
    Uncanny X-Men
    Origins
    Astonishing X-Men
    Wolverine: First Class

Batman is also a supporting character in Nightwing and Robin

I thought the point of the joke was that he is in so many places at once. It doesn't seem fair to count Origins or First Class since they are set in the past or alternative earths (you also missed Ultimate X-Men).

So by my count Wolverine currently in the following current day 616 books:

    New Avengers
    Wolverine
    Uncanny
    Astonishing
    X-Force

It would be interesting to compare that to Batman. I don't know his books from a lump of cheese, so I can't tell which from that list are main DC continuity books and which aren't. But even if Wolverine does win it does seem like Batman is going to come bloody close.

There's also Logan, the Brian K. Vaughn book wherein Wolverine travels to Japan to settle an old score, presumably in the present (though some of the story takes place in flashback).

I was only counting ongoing books, not mini-series. Besides, even the non-flashback stuff in Logan takes place in pre-civil war continuity. (BKV wrote it like 2 years ago)

Logan's a Marvel Knights title. So it's probably not in 616.

the twist here isn't that Nick Fury is a skrull--it's that he's an LMD programmed to be Hill's personal sexbot.

Or Skrulls have been taking turns pretending to be Hill's personal sexbot. Most desirable infiltration position available?

Which raises the question of whether or not Skrulls fight over who gets to Wolverine and who gets stuck as Hank Pym.

for sex life, i think i'd rather be Pym. Logan always goes for these long-distance, melancholy relationships where he hardly ever gets to see the chick, much less pop his seventh claw all up in her girl-parts. he'd rather mope than grope. Pym, on the other hand, is the comic book version of all the fat, ugly guys who have super-hot girlfriends they totally don't deserve.

This is actually how the page plays out.

    Panel One
    Fury: Ya know, Ms.Hill...

    Panel 2
    Hill: Nick Fury...where the hell...?

    Panel 3
    Fury: For an ice queen...

    Panel 4 (no text)

    Panel 5
    Fury: You're kinda hot.

    Panel 6 (sound fx: "Bow-chicka-wow-wow")

    Panel 7
    Fury: I'll hit it...

    Panel 8
    Fury: Furiously.
    Or, creepily, Starfox.
I'd rather not have it questioned if it was technically rape every time I score.
I'll go with Tony Stark. Because payed-off girls can't say no.
