there are more than enough parallels to keep fans and non-fans keeping the messageboards hot all summer (invading force with superior firepower telling the natives that they have a better way for them to live, anyone?).
Are you shitting me?
I cannot begin to describe how stupid this is.
I think it was Oliver Stone who said that your job as a storyteller is to ask the question, not to answer it. No preaching.
Not the greatest of analogies there.
here was I was, screaming myself hoarse at Jeph Loeb in front of him about who’s a Skrull.

I was actually thinking it myself like 2 paragraphs before he said it. I mean, sometimes it's good to have a message, but Newsrama sounded like they were trying to put Iraq War overtones into it and man, even with as much as I dislike the Iraq War on my own, I do not need comic books trying to be "subtle" and bashing it through metaphorical story arcs.
Good point. Nothing so far from Bendis or Marvel has really suggested that it is a metaphor for the Iraq War, although it's a war story--so there are of course going to be overtones and outright links to real war stories. But that was just crazy, so yeah... I hope it was just Newsarama putting in words.
i trust Bendis to understand and respect the difference between being "subtle" and simply creating events which have some parallels with recent history. the first, no matter how "subtle" one tries to be, is always going to end up coming off as Knowing Is Half The Battle. the other resonates and makes stories stronger.
Insane mindfuck SI spoilers that may or may not be true:
Spider-Woman is a Skrull and has been since atleast New Avengers #1. However, the biggest spoiler is that NICK FURY IS A SKRULL and has been since the 1960s Marvel time. Apparently the "younger" Nick Fury will be returning in secret invasion, however the Nick Fury Agent of S.H.E.I.L.D that we all know and love has been a skrull since day one. And he's not going to save anyone in secret invasion. Whether or not that spoilers checks out remains to be seen. Mr. Anonymous could just be pulling our leg

uh....
First of all, Spider Woman is way too fucking obvious after the Doom arc, and on top of that her whole drama with HYDRA would make no sense at all. Also the Nick Fury thing dosen't make a whole lot of sense either becuase - why now? Why hasn't he pulled shit before?
They've been saying since forever that the earliest this starts is with Dissassembled. Basically not a damn thing in that spoiler makes sense, you just make it up yourself?

AKA, the guy all of the other spoilers have been coming from. On one hand, I agree - it sounds doubtful because of the whole "earliest this starts is with Dissassembled" thing. On the other hand, it's one of the few 60s characters that they really could get away with doing it to without messing up other continuity.
As long as Daredevil isn't a Skrull, They can pretty much mess with anyone. I've only been reading comics for about a year and a half and I don't want who has pretty much become my favorite character since I started to actually be an Alien.

It was all to erase part of Spider-Skrull's mind because he was starting to get too close to his fake wife and they were worried it'd compromise the invasion plans, see.
Btw, IGN made 6-7 different reviews about SI #1 most of the scores goes around 8.7, 9.2 so I guess tomorrow will be a good day after all. Considering first issues are mostly fillers to show people what's going on, the scores are not that bad at all...
That's an extremely pretty picture. Also, I'm going to be reeaaalllyyy interested to see how they explain whats been going on with the inhumans between Silent War and Secret Invasion. That's the point of the mini, right?

It's a double sized first issue, Bendis said he learned his lesson about how to start an event properly after people complained at the pace of House of M.
Oh I know that, I just wanted an up-to-date list of all the tie-ins coming out. I'm already confused as to whether there is a New Warriors tie-in coming out as some lists have it and some don't. Also, the YA/R tie-in is listed as simply "SI: Runaways" on early versions. The same thing happened during WWH as the early lists had a Young Avengers tie-in for it before it was replaced by Punisher.

but yeah the bendis boards are atrocious in terms of sig control

Right?

Any book with "Marvel" on the cover is a tie-in. Is this your first event? =p
