- An expanded "Merchant" system, less campy (although I kind of liked the whole camp atmosphere) which must have money, a wider variety of guns, and upgrades.
- Quicktime cutscenes - more knife fights, kthx.
- Context sensitive action movements, like the kick and suplex - they added a whole level of strategy to the game.
- Even more focus on the knife and knife play.
- More ammo conservation.
- A believable, decent arch-villian.
- An incredibly silly, campish, incompetent mini-villian for comedic relief (Ala Salazar).
I just have one, tiny tiny little question about Salazar.
HOW THE FUCK DID HE AFFORD A GIANT MOTHERFUCKING ROBOT OF HIMSELF?!
By skimping on weaponry. With the amount he payed for that he could have bought enough AKs to feed a starving family.
ACCEPTABLE.
The presence of a key switch on its crotch will forever fill me with giggles.
On another note,
I'm about to encounter my first regenerator. I fear for my virtual life.
Regenarator.. They the bastards that spike you if you get close enough?
Those're iron maidens. Spiky versions of regenerators.
Also, I fear my rifle-free lifestyle will not go well. I had to pump over 100 rounds with my TMP into the unfrozen fucker to get him to go down.
RE4 gameplay
A plot that ties in RE2/3 and Umbrella
Red 9 or something similar
Zombies
Zombies with Plagas in them
A Jill Sandwich
Chris' Blood
I'd be fine with a more traditional top-down-esque style to gameplay, but I want over-shoulder aiming, and I want a system of movement similar to the average fixed-camera third person game of today. If there is tank-controls, I'm out. A shame, after entering the series via RE4 and having one hell of a good time.
Fuck the crank room in its ear. I made the mistake of walking out to save several times, not realizing it spawned more enemies every time I did. Now I have next to no ammo and have to defend Ashely while she cranks. On the plus side, I managed to kill her myself trying to shoot the monks off of her.

I had thought RE4-style play was confirmed. Could be wrong.
Quoting my last post, since most missed it so late at night. I did learn I have to five star everything with everyone, so tips on how to do this would be good.
I just finished Separate Ways and Assignment Ada, which just leaves the Mercs. Now I've heard 2 things. That to get some unlock I have to 5 star each run with any person, or that I have to 5 star every run with all 5 of them. Before I started, I wanted to know which is the correct info, and what tips can you offer, any would be appreciated. Also, Krauser is such an annoying pain in the ass during Ada's missions. I was getting sick of shooting him in the big toe.

I think it might have been, but we haven't seen any real gameplay yet.

HandCannon - Get a 5 star in all stages with all characters in the Mercenaries
Can't verify myself because I never really bothered with Mercs. But there are a ton of people here who will be able to confirm/deny.

Little technical question for RE4 Wii... does anyone else have the occasional frame rate stammer? When I'm looking around there's the occasional instance of slight slowdown. It's nothing drastic, but I remember the GC game having a slightly smoother frame rate.
Yeah that's what you have to do to get the HandCannon.
The HandCannon is awesome and everything, but not really worth all that effort.
Well I'd want to do it since I'm a completionest, and I wanted to unlock everything before I started another playthrough with Leon.
Yeah. That's what I said before I played it. Then I played it for a couple of hours. Continually got raped, and said "Fuck this!". I did manage to unlock everyone, but getting 5 stars really isn't worth it for me.

Or maybe I'm misremembering.
I played the GC one and I am playing the Wii one, and I've not noticed any slowdown at all.
Yeah that's what you have to do to get the HandCannon.

Luckily, you can just download the Wii gamesave with the Handcannon unlocked. I'm planning to do this when I get RE4 Wii, since I already got through GC mercs legitimately.
Anyone got any tips for the Krauser fight in the ruins? I've heard knifing him in the head but on my 1st attempt yesterday that was easier said than done.
I remember doing most of the fighting towards the end of the sequence when I did the GC version and just unloading into him on top of some tower... does that sound about right?
I think most people who have bothered to unlock the handcannon will tell you that the game really isn't all that much fun when you're playing with an absurdly overpowered weapon.
At least, that's the impression that I've gotten from reading several RE4 threads. It certainly helped me make the decision not to bother trying to get 5 stars with Ada and Leon, who I hate hate hate playing with in Mercenaries.

Shoot him in the legs until you meet him on top of a tower to collect the final insignia. Then knife him in the face repeatedly.
I don't let him get close enough to knife me. I buy a rocket launcher... I shoot him with my magnum, so he gets stunned for a minute, I throw an incendiary grenade to burn him for a few seconds, then I pull out the rocket launcher.
Do I really have to aim for the head or can I just waggle-knife and still do good damage?
edit: ah buncha good info already. I'm gonna pass on the rocket launcher, somehow I have a huge buildup of herb combos, ammo and grenades filling up my case, i'm inclined to hang onto 'em.
Hit him with the shotgun at close range, run (away or towards him) at long range. The goal is to get him to go away.
When you get to the top of the tower, he'll start defending himself. Shoot or knife his right leg (on your left) until he drops his guard, then shoot or knife his head. The knife gets a serious damage boost here, making it the most efficient weapon to kill him with.

Eh, the handcannon is kind of fun. Not so much for boss fights, but it's still enjoyable to run and gun with a comically overpowered handgun. The Chicago Typewriter, on the other hand... meh. Infinite launcher's fun enough if you try to use it all the time (barring obvious no-gos like freeing Ashley); hijinks galore.
But, yeah... I have no fun at all with Leon in Mercenaries. Ada at least has guns that can kill things.

Personally, I'm already feeling this with the PRL. I beat the game on Pro this weekend and just for shits and/or giggles, I started a new game, stocking my inventory with the PRL412 and Mine Launcher.
Cripes, what's the point? The PRL is like, "I don't really care, I just want to kill everything at once" mode.
I brought the Mine Launcher along since I've never used it before and I wanted to try it out. It's a lot of fun, when used carefully.

I have the PC version of RE4. Not sure if it works in that way for me. I could use a trainer I guess. I just wanted input on if 5 starring everything is more trouble then it's worth? I figure why should I bother playing mercs if no one thinks the end reward is worth it or realistically attainable?

I'm taking on the big cheese. I kill his first form, no problem(found a nice little spot where he won't attack and I can easily shoot him.) When it gets to his second form, though, I pretty much just die. Any tips?

I stayed on the second floor most of the time, strafing from the left to right and back again, stopping to look and see where he was, and taking shots as he comes close. By keeping him moving around to get into attack range is your best bet, since he needs to be next to you, for most attacks, and you can keep him at a distnace.

I've been running in a big circle, so that may be my problem. I'll try the sides.

As long as you keep moving, he's easy to avoid.
Basically use only your shotgun and Red9 on his first form. On his second form use TMP/Red9. I stay on the floor, shoot him near the roof and then move to the opposite end of the room when I see him just about to land next to me. As long as you move when he moves he will never hit you.
For his 2nd form, I like to stay on ground level and shotgun him when he swings to a beam right in front of me. This will knock him to the ground. Then shotgun blast or grenade him while he's crawling around.
What's the conventional wisdom on using R+Y+G herb combos on Leon vs on Ashley? I am only at 3.2 (50 saves, several deaths - heh, I save too much and suck). So far, I've only used them on Leon - he seems to get damaged a lot more than Ashley, especially in boss battles where she isn't present ...

Don't worry about Ashley 'til you completed maxed Leon.
