I just ordered the GameCube version off Amazon. I was leaning towards PS2 until I remembered how much of a graphics whore I am. Plus my Cube library is seriously lacking (I have a whole three games for it).
Damn, Separate Ways is kind of lame. It really feels tacked on. Exact same cutscenes, only in scuzzy prerendered PS2 form, mostly the same environments / territory...
Kind of big spoiler contained, if you care about not having separate ways spoiled:
another El Gigante, booring. I thought Leon killed that one? Another Dr. S in the same exact place Leon encounters one? Another blind claw dude cage match, even though leon had already taken out that bullshit in the narrative? Krauser!? WTF? LAME. They totally pulled that one out of their asses. 'so, we need something good for the last chapter.' 'Krauser, totally' 'but he was already killed off' [checks budget, which is like $50] 'meh, krauser it is.'
I'm mostly finding myself just running through it, just wanting to unlock the bullshit it unlocks. Saved @ the mid point in the last chapter, just before what's his face. It could have been a great sidestory, and it's kind of cool when it actually feels like you're playing alongside Leon, but for the most part it's out-of-ass-pulled indeed.
The thing with the boat and the guns was cool.
So RE5 is being run by the guy who ran the PS2 porting huh? And consequently separate ways?

Good choice. Observe my derision towards separate ways above.
Really though you should have sold your nuts & bought a wii.

I was this close to buying a Wii the other day, but I decided to hold off. I'm trying to save money for this fall and catch up on games I've missed.
Damn't. You can all blow ganados as much as you want but zombies are where it is at. I want my god damn zombies back. If they aren't doing it in this game then where is my announcement for Dead Rising 2?

Just join the largely inevitable game on when Left 4 Dead comes out. Them's not just zombies, but running zombies too.
Zombies would be pretty boring to fight RE4-style. Even if they mobbed you, you could just keep kicking a path through the crowd. Capcom's options for making RE interesting are 1. Severely limit the ammo available or 2. Make the enemies faster and smarter. They've done 1 for a while, and now they're exploring the path of 2.
So any comments on my Butterfly vs. Handcannon situation? I've already got more cannon ammo then i had the whole playthrough for the Butterfly, but I'm also getting Butterfly ammo drops every now and then. I fugured i could just choose to not max out the cannon Damage and exclusive and use it like the butterfly if the ammo keeps consistently dropping as it has so far.

They're both very effective guns. What's your question? 30 rounds is probably more magnum ammo than you'll ever even need in the game, so you could easily just sell off the Butterfly. The BB does have a more badass reloading animation though. Your call.
Good Christ, for someone I can hear clear across the stage, uber-Dr. Salvador sure manages to sneak up on me a lot. Every damn time, he's coming from the direction I least expect.
When I do manage to see him, some douche with a bow always shoots me just as I'm about to pull out THE ARM

That's the point. RE is a survival horror and RE4 is more action horror. For one, you can't generally spin-kick and suplex zombies. Not without then being eaten by the rest of them. Sure zombies are slower but they take a lot of damage and are deadly in hordes. Plus, they're cannibals and are fucked up to the nines in appearance. The dotting about of mutants breaks up any slowdown. But Dead Rising shows that the horde style is where they are more fierce. Though its arcade style means you can take out a LOT of them with many unnatural weapons (benches?). I really, really could not get into RE4 and I am just a big zombie fan. I am glad at least there apparently won't be any Plagas in 5 but the replacement sounds like the exact same thing.

Same with the firing speed, but I usually carefully aim before taking a shot anyway to not waste magnum bullets.

As for Left 4 Dead, isn't that online only?
Realistically then, I suggest that you're not likely to find a return to the same gameplay of the old games, at least not any time soon, and you'd be better off looking at different games and franchises for the time being.
The old games were awesome in their own right, but I like the style of gameplay in the new games as well. It's understandable that they took that course too, otherwise it's very likely that the series would have just stagnated.
As for Left 4 Dead, yes it is an online game, although IIRC you can play with bots. While Turtle Rock Studios are known for being very good with AI (having made the CS Zero bots and stuff), like all multiplayer games you're probably going to get the most of it working with your team-mates. It is very much survival horror though. They're doing some interesting stuff with dynamic gameplay pacing, and allowing other players to control some of the enemy infected. All in all it promises to be very cool.
I probably have 10 full heals (I've also nearly maxed Leon's health), over 200 handgun bullets (with three capacity upgrades to go), over 100 shotgun shells (with all the capacity upgrades to go), 40 rifle bullets (two or three capacity upgrades to go), 13 magnum rounds (two cap. upgrades to go) and more than 150 TMP bullets.
Fucking Garrador steel cage match. Always manages to kick my ass.
The cage is a gigantic asset.
Once you're out and he's in, he's pathetic. If you have a hand grenade, chuck it out the door, and you can get it in like, a second. If not, wail away at the lock with the shotgun.
Edit: Progress: Salazar beaten. I have shotgun shells piled horizontally almost the entire height of the XL case, 60 some rifle bullets, still 200+ handgun bullets. Fourteen full heals and two spare green herbs. 600k in cash.

The cage scene is pretty easy if you can get out quickly and into the hallway with the tables. That's the perfect place to play cat and mouse with the Garrador.

You can do that? I'd always assumed the door shut behind you. I've never left the cage room.
The problem is, I can't get out of the cage. I have 16 shotgun shells, 57 handgun bullets, an incendiary grenade, green herb, and a first-aid spray. All the fuckers have bows, maces, and are just generally fucking me up. Add that to the Garrador just swinging wildly, and I just get fucked over.
Do you have a rifle? It won't help with getting out of the cage (as I said, shotgun or maybe knife the lock), but it's great for dealing with the garrador. The generic zealots can be dealt with using the handgun/suplex combo.

Yeah. Not to many bullets, though. I think I have 6. Well, hopefully I can kick ass tomorrow.

Hm. With that few shots, I'd hold off. You'll need all the rifle shots you can get.
Is there a way to put Leon in the mafia suit but not put Ashley in the armor? Because I don't want to dumb down the difficulty but I definitely some hot mafia action.

My question was mainly if the ammo drops for the Cannon keep dropping so consistently. I'm aware alot less ammo drops in Pro, but for being the rarest gun ammo supposedly, I've got enough to last 2 playthroughs on normal now, I don't even need the exclusive. Also the reload animation looks to be the same, it's just takes almost twice as long as the butterfly. Same with the firing speed, but I usually carefully aim before taking a shot anyway to not waste magnum bullets.
Dude, with that much firepower in your inventory you seriosuly don't need to think this hard about things. You simply don't need all that firepower to beat the game, stop worrying about it. During my Pro no-merchant run I was going wild with my unupgraded magnum whenever I wanted to and still managed to kick the game's ass. Just point any of those weapons at any enemy you see and just keep firing until it dies. Or, alternativley, sell everything BUT the handcannon and just buy the exclusive which gives you infinate ammo, but strangley lets you reload the gun.
It lets you reload with infinite ammo because the animation is awesome.
Very true.
And, on the subject of RE5, it says there are enimes that are not actually zombies, but does that mean there could still be zombies? I love RE4 and all, but I miss the RE zombies. And the whole 'new gameplay feature that is a natural evolution of the gameplay' or whatever they said? My money is on a FPS mode.
EDIT: Oh! Motherfuckin' RE5 shall have an online co-op mode, not FPS! Think how awesome RE4 would of been with co-op
naw it gonna be that "heatstroke" meter that'll probably double as a sanity meter from ED.
nothing was wrong with RE4 why try to fix the gameplay?
DAMN ALL THESE GIMMICKS IN GAMES! WHY CANT YOU JUST MAKE THEM FUN!?

Well for the moment I've stopped playing, because even not using the cannon and I sold off the butterfly, it's just too easy now. Then I tried Pro (which you can't import the old items into) and the ganados outside the first house tore me down to one sliver of health. The PC version needs a away to mess with the sensitivity of the controls. I'd probably love the Wii version on Pro though.

More Eternal Darkness style sanity effects can only be a good thing. They should add a sanity meter to every game. Come in last in Mario Party? That's gonna cost you some sanity. Nook is riding you about your debt? Sanity loss. Pokeymans suffer a psychic attack? You better believe that's a sanity loss.

Most people aren't content with the exact same gameplay in every sequel.

Like, if they repackaged RE4 as RE5, I'd seriously consider buying.

Try a no-merchant normal run or play mercs a lot to get to grps with the enemy mechanics a little better before you tackle pro, you really need to be able to weild your knife well and be able to suplex ganados on command before taking on hard mode
The problem is that runs counter to my playstyle. I've always been the "Horde of zombies coming this way, oh shit. Ok, gotta wipe them out before they get to me." I try my damnedest to keep the enemies at range, simply because if they can't get close to me they can't hurt me, and realistically you don't want to actually run to them. I don't go shooting like a madman though, I try to headshot everything all the time, unless there's no head to shoot. In fact, I've never done a suplex, because I never bothered to learn where to shoot them to get them to stagger into the correct position. It's always in the chest below the neck and in the head. If they did get close, they'd meet the boomstick. As my inventory above shows, I like to hold onto one of each type of gun, for a wide variety of situations.
EDIT The thing I didn't enjoy as I stated before was shooting Krauser in the big toe. I'm purposely going to save a few frags just to skip wasting time on him.
So I thought I'd try watching X-Play. They said that Leon and Luis are gay for each other. They showed some choice shots. I don't know if they were serious or just trying to be funny in their retarded little way.

No. In normal/mercs most of the time, but in Pro I rarely get a head explode when suplexed without having put 3 or more shots in them already.
