I RETURN FROM BEYOND WITH A NEW CHALLENGE FOR YOU

Son of BeyonderSon of Beyonder From BeyondBeyondRegistered User regular
edited July 2007 in Graphic Violence
Okay, fellows, after passing the baton to that Doom asshole for a bit so I could reflect on my life (and deal with shit like finding out my dad is an inhuman mutant skrull dog thing) and how awesome I am, I have returned with a new challenge.

Only this time, I'm not making fictional characters fight for your enjoyment and gambling purposes.

I'm making you make fictional characters fight for your enjoyment.

Confused? Don't be.

THE CHALLENGE

This challenge will test your creativity, your ability to play well with your friends, and smite your enemies. It will test your guts, your instincts, and your ability to deal with a bunch of bullshit I decide to heap all over you because I'm basically all powerful and that is one of the perks.

In short, I'm asking you, the forumers, the dwellers of this "message board" to prove that you have what it takes to produce a comic story. You can go it alone, drawing and writing your own stories, or you can team with another forumer and split the duties.

But what stories? Good question!

When you sign up, choose a partner, and list three heroes you would like to write about. This hero will be your champion through your battles. You will be pitted against an opposing team with its own champion and given a prompt (could be a setting, could be a situation, could be something ridiculous) and it will be up to you to prove why your hero would come out on top.

Depending on interest, the format of the tournament may change, so I'll reveal more details once I close sign-ups. But here are the basics, what you'll need to know.

IN SUMMARY

Choose a partner (or go it alone) and a hero, and battle other forumers to prove not only that your hero is superior, but that you are superior. The concept is similar to other "forum battles" like the ones SE++ has had recently, or the Artist Corner Tournament thing that they do, but with a twist: you (and/or your partner) choose a hero, and pit him or her in mortal (or not mortal) combat against the hero of another forumer. Winners will be chosen by popular vote (POLL THREADS!), and the format of the tournament will be revealed later.

SIGN-UPS OPEN TONIGHT AND WILL CLOSE NEXT MONDAY (7-16-07)

Please follow this format:

Username:
Partner Username:
Hero Choice 1:
Hero Choice 2:
Hero Choice 3:

List any heroes you may want to use. Heroes will be assigned on a first-come first serve basis, but don't hesitate to put a hero already listed on your own list if you really want to use them, in case the person who called dibs backs out or changes their mind. More information will be available on the 16th.

Ask any questions you like here. Not all may be answered yet, but it won't hurt anything to ask.

I'm a pretty decent artist... Kinda. That said, I forgot to mention in my last post that I'd be willing to do a team-up with anyone wanting to do one of those characters. I can fill any position (Drawing, writing, coloring, whatever).

    You're gonna hate my style.

I mean, it's technically anatomically possible, but it's very cartoony/stylized.

But I am a shitty drawer.

If an artist teams up with me, I will let them pick the three heroes. Of course, if I don't know anything about them, I will tell you that you should pick different ones.

Also, last time we did this, I thought it would be great if we removed anyone who could beat Superman, anyone who could end up in a stalemate with Superman, and anyone who could last more than 2 hours against Superman from the competition as a hard and fast rule preventing the inclusion of over-powered characters.

Any chance of seeing that with this competition?

Not that there's anyone like that so far, though Madrox arguably has a death touch.

Well I think given the chance that someone picks some ridiculously powerfull dude, that actually gives the opponent the advantage since people will be more likely to vote for the creative defeat than the generic smash.

    Hrm?

The only time I have ever seen Jamie kill someone with his powers is when he shoved his hand in a dudes mouth and made a dupe inside his body.

Oh, and the flood of dupes when he was mind-controlled.

Who won the Superhero tournament again?

    How about the Supervillain tournament?

I wasted an embarrassing amount of time trying to come up with creative ways for the underdogs to win, and it never really worked out.

Yeah but that was just a generic poll. This time you have people actually writing out the battles and then people vote for the one they like better, not the one who would win in an actual fight

Yeah, with the way Jamie's powers work, he can kill anyone by sticking his finger in them and making a dupe. Even Superman, in theory.

There are way more lurkers on this board then I thought, and when they came out of the woodwork to vote in the tournaments absolutely none of them bothered to read the debate threads. It was basically just, "Well, you know, Superman can move around really fast and punch your head off."

I wouldn't expect half of the votes to be informed, unless of course the characters are close enough to force you to read the stories to make your decision.

Or, as Geebs just said, they aren't simple fights. Good idea!
