The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I work in a call center doing technical support for a major computer company and am creating a website with all my favorite utility programs. This way I don't have to remember how to navigate 100 different sites and can just tell the customer to go to my site. I'm looking for any utilities you consider useful in troubleshooting work, or just any programs that are useful (and hopefully free).
I finished the site, if this is considered sitewhoring I will take it down, but no mods are on right now to ask first. I'm just putting this up here to give people ideas of what type of programs I'm looking for. http://www.techtools.110mb.com/
Good list so far!
Stuff I have on my emergency disk that I dont see on your list:
ccleaner - get rid of all those temp files
atitool - ati card tinkering tool. got a very nice hairy cube graphics stress test
winrar & 7zip - archives
irfanview - I just can't function without this. The default windows image viewer drives me crazy.

You'd better clear that with your higher ups. Get it in writing.
They wont care, they dont give us any specific programs we cant use. As long as we use discretion and don't have the customer end up with a pirated program or malware its ok.

Emphasizing the point here.
Unless you specifically work in a job where you have free reign to mess with 3rd party utils, you can get in a a WHOLE WORLD of trouble for using something not cleared by the higher ups. This ranges from corporate licensing issues down to "we just don't want shit like this on our network/pc's".
My job for instance, I can do pretty much anything I want short of pirated software. The help desk however? They can't even use free shit included in Windows that's outside of normal troubleshooting without me or someone higher up saying it's cool.

Well where I work the customers pay for service by the minute so again, as long as I know what Im doing and dont give out pirated software and the customers problem gets fixed, they dont care.
I just restored the session of firefox that had the website editor in it and it somehow made my webpage blank. If any of you have the page in your history could you PM me the source code? I dont want to have to type everything again.
EDIT: The way to do it if you dont know would be to go into "Work Offline" mode, then go back to the site in your history.

Bullshit and you know it. Why else WOULDN'T you get this cleared by them? As soon as the problem gets made worse by the (mis)use of some utility you recommened outside the approved methods, *YOUR* ass will be in a sling.
But do what you want. Hell, put some huge flash banner ads so you can earn an extra few bucks off your site. Your superiors won't care as long as the problem gets fixed, right?

No backup? And you call yourself a tech.
