They don't do a very good job of enforcing those naming rules, do they? ;)

They leave it to players to report offenders.

With how many millions of people who play in the US servers alone, it can not be expected that the GMs would double check every single name.

    So "Thor" would get deleted?

Guess so, cause it's either an a) deity, or 2) trademarked cartoon guy.

Interestingly, that "Johnroberts" character I saw a while back, or my "Scalia" char might not get reported since I'd hardly call them "pop culture" or "media personalities".

As far as I know Blizzard doesn't care unless someone reports it. There was a rogue in my guild named Mazthoril and lasted almost a year until he decided it sucked and had someone report it.

I would at least hope that each time they make someone change their name, they add the old name to a ban list or something.

They don't. There was one complete tool on Lightninghoof who had his name changed (I don't recall what it was), but the new name he picked was even worse, so it got reported too. He simply changed his name back to the first one. This went on for quite some time, back and forth between the names.

blizzard's naming policy is basically just there so the have justification when the make someone change their name. Most people don't actually get reported, and people who jsut ahve the name to be cool and not be a cockbite generally dont get their name changed.

I ahve a whole slew of characters named after video game cahracters and deities that have been around since release, never been approached once.

Ikeelu is also comprised of a partial sentence or phrase and utilises leet speak, so that's three strikes right there. Isn't it also a Ren & Stimpy catchphrase?

Seriously, I'm scared to even try and play WoW after reading that EULA. Just naming my damn character is going to be a fucking minefield.

Eh, just use some generic fantasy-sounding names.

    Characters I've played:

Aeldrich (warlock, first character, named after some evil necromancer dude in a pnp RPG)
    Durgnak (generic orc name)
    Scarne

And after that, my Z period:

    Zansha
    Zai
    Zhikhee

...and my latest paladin alt, Siobhán. Which is a real, Irish name. (Shikhee is an Indian name, I just replaced the S.)

I used to just add really bad names to my friends list to wait and see if it'd get changed and what the new name would be. The most memorable of these was the level 14ish troll, Forklift. A few days later I logged in to find Aforklift on my friends list.

I had coplained about how tons of people in the 20/29 bracket had the AscII characters in their names making it a pain to look them up on the armoury or report them.

I had said stuff about it on the customer service forum and was ditrected to post it in the suggestions one
