So a few days ago, I stopped being able to log into Yahoo messenger, which was kind of weird, but it had happened before so I wasn't too worried. Except it's been going on since, and, on further inspection, I'm not even able to get to Yahoo.com. I tried getting there by connecting a different computer to our wireless, but that one wouldn't load it either.
So I'm stumped. Any ideas why this happened, or what I could do to fix it? I kinda need to check my mail.
Okay, so I ran Spybot and Adaware (which I can't believe I didn't do in the first place, but I'm thick), and still no go on the messenger or the site. I'm at a loss.
Start at a lower level. Try an nslookup (I am assuming you are on a wintendo) and then do a tracert. If you fail at the DNS issue, your hosts file has either been manipulated or falsified or your DNS source is suspect (ISP). If the traceroute works and a simple ping verifies connectivity, it is a higher-level issue and may be as simple as some esoteric plug-in or config value in your browser. Have your considered that possibly your wireless router's cache is full and a simple reset might resolve the issue? Especially if you are using bittorrent?
Full details of your attempts and the response/error codes would go a long way.

Skeldare has it on the money - I can't even get the page to load. I just get a Firefox can't connect page, and on Messenger I get a popup window that says Yahoo is having a "problem".
Unidentified Coward I wish I could help you to help me but what in the sweet monkey christ is all that moon code (I'm on a computer by the way, sorry, not a Wii). I cleared the cache and gave it another run, but no luck.
Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.yahoo.com.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
Okay, so I checked it with IE, and that's a no go, same with the IP address, so I guess it's not a DNS problem. Pinging yahoo.com resulted in four timed out packets.
What kind of ISP service do you get, and have you manually configured DNS (eg manually put DNS server IP's in your Windows settings, or in your home router settings)?

Pretty much your standard 'wutever' page.
You can also try going to Yahoo's IP address: 209.131.36.158
If that loads it's probably a DNS problem.

Did you check the hosts file to make sure it's not blocked?
Also, if you're running on a network with a router/modem you might try resetting it/restoring to factory defaults.

Can you ping 209.131.36.158?
