Exporting Windows Mail MAPI Error?

I'm trying to upgrade a computer FROM vista TO xp (because vista causes way too many problems.)
Im having some trouble getting my mail messages exported.
I need to go from Windows Vista Mail to XP Outlook Express.
In Windows Mail, i click "Export", then choose messages, then "Microsoft Exchange" (what you need to go between different versions), but when I click this, I receive an error:
"The export could not be performed.
An error occurred while initializing MAPI."
I can't seem to fix this, I've tried changing the default programs like a few google searches recommended, but nothing is working. I CANNOT lose these 300+ emails and I need to get this converted to XP.
In short:
How can I get all my messages from Vista's Mail to Outlook Express, or, how can I fix the MAPI so Vista's Mail Export will actually work?

[edit] The other option looks like "Windows Mail." You can try using that one, but I'm not sure Outlook Express will like that. It should though since Windows Mail is just a gussied-up OE.
