I just went to my local EBStop and picked up one of 2 copies they had that were not pre-ordered. While I was there I asked the guy if he might happen to have a use copy of MGS3:Subsistence. He did. Score!
Whew! What a fucking tough boss battle. I made it with like 1:40 to spare. AND I hadn't saved in a couple days, so there was added tension for me. What was up with the "B J" on her tits?

I did, but I only have two Personae. :P Seems silly to fuse all I have.
Also, when they said Tartarus was random, they weren't kidding... this is going to take getting used to.
I just finally got to the point where I have more options to choose from, and I got to say, I'm really enjoying the game. Characters really have personality, and I'm actually finding myself listening to their voices, instead of reading the text and skipping on.
I'm nearing the end of april and really loving it so far. I just kind of hope, though, that with the next generation or something Atlus hires some dungeon designers. Everything else in their games is completely top notch, but then you get into the dungeon, and it's just blank labyrinths.

You must not have played Etrian Odyssey or Nocturne.
You must not have played Etrian Odyssey or Nocturne.
The dungeons are breathtaking.
Especially EO's.
I played a bit of Nocturne, all of DDS1&2, and now this, and nothing at all was breathtaking, really. Really, the dungeons are the only flaw I can find in DDS1&2. Together they're probably my favorite RPG, so I guess I'm just still mourning over the fact that they're just not quite perfect, and I fear this'll probably be the same.
And got that nasty, vile, healer-killing boss to about 2% health before he murdered the main character. This guy is just MEAN. I had to use some shock damage items to even put a dent in him (since Agi was hitting for a massive 20. Absolute madness I tell you!
I'm not sure beautiful dungeons are a necessary aspect in an RPG.
They're made up for by great looking towns.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy these games, but I'm not gonna lie, the dungeons are pretty bland and boring looking. Just totally monotonous. This goes for DDS1&2 and what I've seen of P3 so far. And what I played of Nocturne.

I think I killed the first 'boss'.
Barely.
The bird trio?
It was tough, but we survived. The A.I. definitely has negatives. I can't have Yukari heal a specific character, or Junpei strictly use Persona attacks?
Okay, I made it to level 5, which has a 2-way teleporter. That's cool.
Man, I wish I could do more than one thing after school each day. I feel bad ditching one person for the other.
When you're fusing Personae, you get to preview what they turn into before finalizing it. That's pretty awesome, since a lot of "fusing" sections in games don't tell you what something makes until you try it once.
I chose the Kendo club too. Probably should have taken the Swim Team just to see Yuko in a swimsuit, hah.
The Party AI seems pretty intelligent to me.
If they know an enemy has a weakness they will pretty much do nothing but use that attack. Against strong monsters, it seems like Junpei uses his strongest attacks and Yukari mostly heals and uses Physical Attacks when fighting bosses.

I just finished that fight before I turned it off for the evening. I found Yukari to be really intelligent about using Dia, and Junpei, much to my shock, actually stopped using Cleave or whatever it is and used a Medicine on Silent Protagonist when it was needed
It was so awesome
Gotta say this is the first JRPG-ish game I've enjoyed in a while. The school thing is pretty interesting (though possibly repetitive, we'll see), and running around in Tartarsauce is quite fun too.
Took me a while to figure out how to equip Yukari and Junpei with new shit, though, and I'm having trouble scraping together yen.
(I named my Silent Protagonist Nobuo Uematsu, because I am a huge dork )
So wait, is this game actually out on store shelves now?
I just did a search on Gamestop's website to see whether any stores close to me had it in stock and of course it said no. Then, just out of curiosity, I decided to check within a 200 mile radius. Not one single store was listed as having it in stock.
I know the game is going to be hard to find, but geez. Have Gamestop/EB already gotten their shipments in and sold out? The reason I ask is because usually games like this don't sell out around here.
If they really have already gotten their shipments of the game, then I guess I'll check Wal-Mart and K-Mart tomorrow. Does anyone know if either one of those are even carrying the game?
If your stuck in Canada-land like me, you gotta wait til tomorrow. If your in the US, you should've called the stores since I bet the inventory system only refreshes overnight or something equally as stupid.

Well, car got fixed early and I was out the door. Hit up EB and I asked for Persona 3. Then Register monkey A asked RM B if they could sell without preorders yet. Luckily RM B was busy playing Super Mario Brothers on the Wii and said "what? Yeah, sure."
Oh man, I am so hooked on the combat in this game. It's definitely based on a system of hard counters, as I expected from the comments about SMT games in general. It's so brutally technical that I'm totally engrossed. And this psycho-hype thread is why I bought it; I thank you all . As to the 14th floor boss:
I combined two personas to create the amazing Omoikane, which has Zio (which the boss is weak against, although he isn't knocked down by it) and isn't knocked down by the boss' attacks. Considering how badly I was butchered the first time, the second was a total cakewalk.
It seems silly to me that this Persona that we see on all the promotional stuff for the Main, lasts like 5 minutes and then you can fuse it and that's that.
So... how do your other characters work, since you can't fuse their Personas?
If I know SMT like I know SMT...
It'll be back.
The other characters stay with one Persona...
until it evolves later on.(I think)
I'm thinking... should I save the original for later on? Like maybe if you keep him and fuse it with something awesome much later in the game, you get something really good
You eventually get the ability to acquire a shiny new Orpheus. Don't feel too reluctant to fuse with him.
Also, RE: the party AI, this was actually covered in the mini-questionnaire in the Strategy guide... not really a spoiler, but tagged for safety:
Charade Menu: Why was it decided that party members would be AI controlled rather than player controlled?
Atlus USA: This is only my personal interpretation, but I believe this allows the player to really inhabit the role of the main character. Rather than manipulate the entire party like an omnipotent god, you must depend on them just as you do with your real life friends. It's quite different from summoning demons to have them do your bidding. In other words, I think the system is designed to enhance the sense of camaraderie and teamwork. If you consider the theme of the game which we discussed above, along with the Social Link system, this becomes more apparent.
Basically, they made the party AI controlled for immersion, or at least the guy they interviewed from Atlus thinks so.
I haven't really felt hindered by the lack of control over my teammates, though it is sometimes frustrating when they don't quite do what I'd like. Currently saved at 5/26.
The dungeon gets much harder past floor 16

Pfft... I'm actually really enjoying all the vocal tracks =P (Mostly I'm enjoying the entire soundtrack...I think it's great.)
And yeah, there are too many social links to build in the short amount of after school time you have. I'm pleasantly surprised at how smooth the game is overall though. I was afraid that school would take up way too much of the gameplay, but it fits in perfectly. Even when I don't take a walk through Tatarus, I still find interesting stuff to do...although I'm disappointed that there is only one place to hang out at night.
Anyone know what the red room in the alley next to the flower shop is? Every time I check it just says "It looks dark down there." It looked like a night club, but so far I can't get in there.

For such a small town, there's so much life to everything. I love it.
and it was worth the wait. zOMG the game is soo stylish. The intro gave me flashbacks of the first time I watched Perfect Blue.
I was wondering, is it wrong that when you're asked to enter a name...
