Persona 3: "Are you aware that the moon grows full...?"
Posts
If you don't mind some very, very, very, very minor non-story spoilers about missables/non-missables:
Also, early on, you are able to purchase rare items on Sunday that you can't purchase any other day, but if someone calls you to do something on Sunday and you accept the invitation, you automatically leave your room without being able to purchase the item. But...this is hardly consequential as you can get better items in other ways.
Last, it is possible to not max everything (your skills and social links) out over the course of the game, but you'd have to be very lazy to let that happen. Also, some events and rewards require that you have a certain skill level by a certain date, but even these things are pretty obvious within the confines of the game.
Suffice to say I did pretty good at it without a guide: the game rewards you if you apply logic and pay attention. You may want to - literally - take notes in class. I admit I went to GameFAQs to read up on the Japanese guide once or twice, but everything is fairly logical.
That said, I'll probably buy the guide too, because I'm a sucker for those things.
I could probably come up with one, though there really isn't that much.
The guide doesn't seem to have many spoilers at either, except for who bosses will be. It's just Japanese school background info, the calendar and what events happen when and then lots of tables.
That's the thing. Basically there are events that require you to have a certain skill rank by the start of that event, and the timed quests. And you have to make sure you plan your day-to-day life out efficiently so you can maximize your skill-ups and social-link-ups.
It's one of those games that seems confusing at first but lets you get into a groove easily.
For example in DDS:
But if you guys say there's not much to miss, I'm relieved. I'm sure I'll enjoy this either way, it's just that obsessive part of my personality speaking again (I hate missing stuff).
That's why I go to GameFAQs, go to the game's message boards, and search for the keywords "miss" or "missable."
Chances are, if it's a game that debuted in Japan already, someone will have a thread and a mini-guide with all missable items/events, especially if it's not a very complex list.
That's how I found out about the Zodiac Spear in FFXII when I was reviewing the game before it or the guide came out; I was looking around on GFaqs for help with a tough boss/hunt and I came across a "missables" list.
The Persona 3 message board doesn't have one, but it's pretty clear that very few things are missable in the game. But a lot of other RPGs do. Hell, even non-RPGs do on occasion.

More time to finish Persona 1 and 2.
Man... Sucks for you guys though. :P
I was stuck inside a hellish mashup/hybrid of Persona 3 and Castlevania Something of the Something.
It was...awesome.
Has my whole life been a lie?!?!
I guess this means I should work on P2 some more.
EDIT: CJ: Ouch man. I used to take days off to play EQ or something, but for these I just figured if I liked it enough, I'd take a day off the following week after I got it in my hands.
I was tempted to take Friday off though.
That... sucks.
They are having to get the art books fully redone. I'd expect that it'll be a tad bit longer than a week.

ARRRRGGGGHHHH
I say ship the game without the art book...
(Well, assuming you preordered it)
I was on track to beat Tales of Eternia by Wednesday. I'd play and probably beat Persona 3 by mid/late August, just in time for Bioshock and, more importantly, Blue Dragon to be released on the 360.
Assuming a 1-2 week delay I'm going to have to find something to play for the next couple of weeks and it looks like Bioshock might be going into my backlog when it comes out because there's no way I'm not playing P3 or Blue Dragon...
***Edit***
I also have to fit Jeanne D'Arc and Brave Story in there at some point...
There are just too many good games being released in August.
Hopefully I can snag a DDS1+2 auction. That'd make things better.
Ah well, more time to finish DDS2 I suppose.
It looks like I've really been missing out.
This will be waiting for me after I destroy those 2 titles.
Persona 2. Great use of controller vibration or greatest use of controller vibration?
3DS: 1607-3034-6970
MGS and Rez would like to speak with you.
You guys need to play through DDS. It's probably my favorite RPG ever, now. Or, at least it's quite near the top.
I'm certainly enjoying DDS2, mainly because it has so much more story. Now if I could stop making turn calculation mistakes and getting myself owned on this miniboss here, I might actually get somewhere.
But MAN does the translation bite! I've seen worse but still...
So, what's this awesome use of vibration in Persona 2 all about? I never got to play the game.
They use the "heartbeat rumble" a lot and they do it REALLY well. It's kind of creepy.
Am I going to lose anything what with the whole SIXAXIS not having rumble?
