Sony can just unbundle Motorstorm and sell the 80 GB for $500 or for $550. And they can still offer the 5 free BR movies. I just hope they're talking BS on the 60 GB Phase out because they'll bring it back later on without the EE chip as a "we phased out the old 60 GB" move.

I predict now that they will unbundle the Motorstorm demo as soon as they're done phasing out the 60GB unit and leave the 80GB unit at $599. Because that just seems to be the direction they're going this week.
It's the battered wife sales paradigm; buy the system now because you have no idea what we're gonna do later!

Also, the five free Blu-Ray movies thing is a temporary promotion; the one on the back of the PSM on my desk expires Sept. 30.
I said it before, and I'm going to say it once more, just so everyone can see that I called it. The 60 gig is being phased out because of the EE chip. Once it's gone, give it a month or so, then the 80 gig will be coming down to 500 bucks before the holidays. Trust me.
But what happens after that? People have balked at the $500 price tag since last year's E3. The problem is that there's no remote indication of going below $500; every single price "adjustment" has been dancing between $500 and $600, and there have been four such shifts in less than a year.

I'd say they'll probably stick to $500 after that, and $500 will be a darned good price at that time because all those top notch AAA titles will be out or just around the corner.

Aye, 9/30/07 expiration. But I was saying they could bring it back with different movies at that.

I think they released something along the lines of "Well, we'll kinda sorta work on it, but in reality you should just buy a PS2." a few months back during the Euro launch.

Remember with that list just presented that those are the euro versions. You'll notice that different builds of the same game can have drastic preformance differences. That and we have absolutely no clue how good the NTSC list will be. It could be fantastic, it could be absolute shit.

Microsoft actually pseudo gave up at one point but then because of an outpouring of nerd protest started really kicking it into high gear, especially on great games that sold like shit to keep the fans happy. The last three patches added my entire XBOX catalog into the fold, and I have some obscure classics.

360 is cheaper than a Wii? That's pretty odd.
The MSRP for the Core 360 is still about $45 more than the MSRP for the Wii, however with the exception of specialist game stores everyone ignores the MSRP for the 360.
As long as you're willing to go to a general electronics store instead you can get about $100 off the price of the 360, both Core and Premium.

What game are they bundling with the 80? Genji, or some shit?

Motorstorm, which is a pretty decent game by all accounts.

In the other thread someone called it "average" and I called them out, and I'll call you out too. Sorry but "decent" is not what I'd call a game that has a 83% rating at Gamerankings (and that was before the online updates), at the very worst I'd call it above average.

I am surprised they're packaging it with the PS3 though. I mean, it's a really good game but it's not exactly the most mainstream game. I guess they can't pack in Resistance, since it's a M rated game but still... Maybe they'll swap it for Ratchet & Clank once it comes out.

Anyway, I'm actually glad that they've done this. It means that a real price-drop is more likely before the end of the year. Hopefully the $500 PS3's will sell well and Sony will realise that at the very least, they should have the PS3 at that price (though an ideal situation would have the PS3's price even lower).

I think he meant "pretty decent" as in "it's not a bad game"

Fair enough then. I was just pissed at the Motorstorm bashing that took place in the other thread and wanted to make sure it wasn't repeated.

As for Sony not dropping the price in Europe, it definitely sucks. If they had've dropped the price, I would've bought one straight away. But now? I think I'll hold out until at least a couple of the big late 07 games are out (which includes Warhawk, Lair, Uncharted, R&C and Heavenly Sword). My PSP and DS will suffice for now (hell even my PS2 will get some playtime with the PAL version of Rogue Galaxy finally coming out in September).

mausmalone: Uh, Motorstorm demo? Isn't it the full version?

cemetery man: It's supposedly being released in September but we really don't know. Between now and the end of the year there are three big events. The first is the Leipzig Game Convention in August, the second is the Tokyo Game Show in September and the last will probably be (unless they cancel it) Sony's Gamers Day in October. Hopefully they'll unveil it at one of them and then release it shortly after.

This really tells me that those crazy Sony suits haven't changed at all. This is how I see their rationale:

"Man, $600 is a steal for the amount of technology we are packing into these things. We're taking a huge hit on them at that price point (even though our production has streamlined, and we are taking less of a hit), so let's switch out the HD with one that costs us $5 more, and see if we can't trick people into buying these things."

I mean, it's obvious they're not passing savings onto the consumers. When the PS3 debuted it had such a large margin (compared to previous consoles) between the cost to produce and the MSRP. I think I now know why Sony has been avoiding price drops. As that margin shrinks, it is only now approaching what a normal console has during debut. Meaning, Sony is trying to narrow that margin, and a price drop won't allow that. So they have to do these stupid little tricks like a $5 upgrade in the HD to make people feel like they are getting a break of some kind.

How much does Motorstorm run for these days? I ask this because I doubt Sony will unbundle the game, seeing as it'll probably drop to platinum game price soon (around $30). A year after 360 came out, some of the flagship games went cheaper (PD0, PGR3, Condemned) so its safe to assume the price will drop. They may as well bundle it

And throw me into the crowd of people who think Sony has officially lost their mind. They should be working on trying to get the price down to the sweet spots of $400, $300, and $200, and below as soon as possible, not throwing in extra stuff to justify keeping the price at $600 indefinitely.

Yeah, I just saw this after my post. It's quite enticing, I must say, but I'll have to wait until I get some more money (I was expecting to get 1200 bucks, but it looks like I'm not), and until the 360 is actually stable. There's no way I'm going to purchase one with the current failure rate, even with the 3 year warranty. I'm not going to wait around a month while my console gets fixed. That's just not going to happen.

You can get a PS2 for the price of a Nintendo DS. If PS2 games are really that important to you, just go that route.

This has solidified my intent to hold off buying a PS3 as long as possible. Which could be a long goddamn time, provided more companies start following Konami's (maybe) example and waffle on the console exclusvity.

I've had my PS2 for 6 or so years now, and haven't had a problem at all with it. And, the DRE stuff didn't really come until later in the console's life. Unless I'm mistaken (and, I guess I could very well be), not many DREs came after only a month of owning a PS2, whereas the 360 was dead on arrival in some cases, and in others it took less than a month to die.

    I just

    I don't

    Why are they

This just boggles my fucking mind, man. Why would you take a console that is not selling very well, promising a price drop, then essentially undo it and add functionality it doesn't really need anyway for the exact same price as the old version

    Dear Sony,

It doesn't matter how awesome Killzone 2 and Uncharted look if your console costs SIX HUNDRED FUCKING DOLLARS. How could you not have learned this since November?

    Lovingly yours, bruin

There's no way I'm going to purchase one with the current failure rate, even with the 3 year warranty. I'm not going to wait around a month while my console gets fixed. That's just not going to happen.

    Grossly misinformed exaggeration.

Your loss, really. There's some awesome shit out there.

So Europe gets no pricedrop nor 80gb version?

    what

Well, its not all doom and gloom. The UK has a pack in deal with the two best games on the system, and an extra controller. Of course, you could see this as a method of getting rid of all the rumbleless sixaxis controllers...

Misinformed exaggeration? I dunno, but even when huge fans of the system are saying that you're screwed without that warranty, and that it's not a question of if, but more of when it'll break. And, when I see threads where people are up to their third or fourth console, I tend to get frightened. As for the 'awesome shit,' I'll be busy playing 'awesome shit' on my PS3. There are a few games on the 360 I want, though: Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Gears of War, and maybe Dead Rising, but that's about it.
