Even though I know jack-all about the DCU's recent history, those are some pretty interesting solicits. I'm probably even going to get that Lord Havok book even though I don't know shit about it, because Tieri's writing and he hasn't led me astray yet.

Really because I wouldn't get the Lord Havok book because I thought pretty much everyone accepted that the '90s were a horrible time for comics and they shouldn't be remembered

See it's not even that it's a '90s thing for me it's like-- okay, the entire team is nothing but homages/pastiches of recognizable Marvel villains, meant to clash with DC's Champions of Angor, themselves a group of homages to the Avengers. They were kind of interesting for a story arc or two where they bounced off recognizable DC heroes, but do you really want to read about an entire group of knockoffs? Then, they've got the story taking place on Earth-8, which was previously said to be the Earth inhabited by "replacement" heroes like Kyle Rayner, Breach, and so on, but it's now apparently just Earth-Marvel Comics (not to be confused with Earth-5). To add to the idiocy, this story's going to dredge up Lord Havok again, which DC's editorial team went out of their way to avoid when Max Lord went all kooky. So you have a group of formerly dead faux Marvel characters inhabiting a world that should have been home to Kyle Rayner but now apparently belongs to Lieutenant America (lolz), headed by a villain that at one time was a robot that was possessed by the mind of Maxwell Lord, who also died but then came back as a cyborg, and then just a normal guy, only to come back and die again.
It just seems like a thoroughly pointless story only designed to cash in on Countdown. But who knows, maybe it'll rock, and I'm happy to see DC using its other Earths, even if it's not one I particularly care about.
You know what would be cool? A series about all the "replacement heroes" set on an Earth where they were never replacements. No cross-overs though. They have no idea about any multiverse or alternate timelines or anything of the sort. Just straight, non-confusing, linear continuity. No "grittier heroes", no heroes that decide they need to take over the world in order to run things right. Just the DCU, but different. Everything starts in the mid to late Twentieth Century. For example, Kyle Rayner, not Hal Jordan, became the Green Lantern on this Earth, even though Hal Jordan existed.
Oh wait. This HAS already been done. In Supreme Power. Thank you, Marvel, for canceling a fuck-awesome comic.
I read the second volume on the subway one day. Little did I suspect that there would be lots and lots of female nudity. I was a little embarassed, but I didn't have anything else to read. I imagine anyone around me who happened to notice what I was reading probably thought me a pervert.

The Countdown Tie-Ins are getting a bit ridiculous.
I mean,
Countdown to Adventure
Countdown to Mystery
Gotham Underground
The Earth-3 Special
The Earth-8 Special
The Search for Ray Palmer.
Not to mention the tie-in issues of normal ongoings.
Let's see, for October we have:
Countdown (30-26)
Countdown to Mystery #2
Countdown to Adventure #3
Countdown Presents: Lord Havok and the Extremists #1
Countdown Presents: The Search for Ray Palmer: Crime Syndicate #1
Captain Carrot and the Final Ark #1 (Countdown Tie-In)
Detective Comics #837 (Countdown Tie-In)
Death of the New Gods #1-2 (Countdown Tie-In)
Gotham Underground #1 (Countdown Tie-In)
Birds of Prey #111 (Countdown Tie-In)
Countdown Special: The Flash 80-Page Giant (doesn't really count, though)
Yeah, I wanted The Adventures of The Earth-4 heroes, or Earth-8(When it was Kyle Rayner's Earth, not Lord Havok's)'s Adventures.
Not, Oh hey Kyle Rayner and Donna and Jason are gonna explore this world now, kay? and it's gonna all tie-in to the Countdown story which I'm not even reading anymore.

So then you don't buy them . It's a simple solution.
I'm probably not going to, however I can complain that putting a bajillon tie-ins to a story that probably could have been self-contained is ridiculous.

That's only half-true!
But mostly I think Nighthawk is a mature man who needs to be in some mature situations.
Sex with a fish? Preposterous! Do you have any idea how hard it is to find one that's the right size?
And of course, after throwing the first back, the rest know to stay the hell away from my boat.
Aren't you?
Yeah, I remember they restarted that book and made it a non-mature title so they could get a better audience
THAT worked out
Looks like a good month to me.

Ridiculous.
I mean, Countdown isn't an event necessarily, but it has more tie-ins than most events.

i wanted series
not tie-ins

As far as I know, Countdown to Mystery and Countdown to Adventure just have Countdown backup stories, with the main stories being self contained.
Gotham Underground is just another gang war, though it sounds good.
Captain Carrot, well..it's Captain Carrot.
I don't care how many there are, asl ong as they're good.
So then you don't buy them . It's a simple solution.
