Laptop Ram

So I just ordered my first laptop, a Dell Vostro 1500. The default option was only 512 megs of ram, and while it'll be running on XP for a while, I still want to put 2 gigs in as fast as I can find them. I'm assuming Newegg would be the place to be. I'm not sure what brand or speed or whatever I need to get though.

The default ram listed on the page is DDR2 SDRAM at 677 mhz. Can I just look around for two one gig sticks of that at Newegg?

The corsair I saw on Newegg was $84. Compared to like $200 from Dell.

Should I go ahead and order this now so it's here by the time my laptop is, or find something different?

If the ram is supported by the laptop, and you know you can install it (or know somewhere to send it in) then I'd say you might as well.
If you are going to send it to a store so they can put the ram in, I'd reccommend checking their prices on the same memory first.
Do check that the laptop uses DDR2 ram though.

You never want to buy memory from the same place you buy the laptop if it's straight from the manufacturer. They gouge the hell out of the prices.

Yeah, the kind matches (DDR2 and whatnot) I think, and Dell definitely does gouge the fuck out of the price. That kind of Corsair is good, reliable, etc, right, though?

Also I have no idea how hard it is to put RAM into a Vostro 1500. I've heard you just move a panel in the back or something and it slides right in. I'm not sure how accurate that is.
