I'll spoiler my theory for dean's salvation in case people don't want to read it.
I think they will find something to trade the demon in exchange for deans soul, my guess would be that knife or something of similar power, as it seems like Demons have a problem with other demons, and the ability to kill another demon would be pretty powerful for them. Also is it possible the mysterious woman is some kind of angel sent down to balance out the demons on the loose?

Well remember the roadkill episode, there was mention of they know hell exists (as the demons mention its not a pleasant place), but they have no idea what happens when a good soul stops being. And as such there hasn't been an "angel" or anything heavenly on the show.

There was only the ascension of the priest's spirit in the episode at the Church that is even remotely 'angelic' as far as I know.
I'd like someone to turn things on their head and have angels being truly hardcore pricks that make the demons look like nothing. But they just don't care enough about the mortal realm anymore, or they're focused on more 'important' things. You could even steal something from the comic Preacher and have God off on some sojourn and that's why the Angels haven't stepped in for the last thousand years.
Well roadkill had a similar style spirit vanishing as did the final episode of season 2. So you can go somewhere better then hell, just where that is and whats going on there is the question.
I could see angels being pricks (kind of like in Hellblazer), but I would hope they wouldn't have too many of them as mans troubles with hell is part of the appeal of the show.

Well its a possibility, the only way I see the demon giving up her hold on dean is for her to have something better (even if there is a way after the fact to have that taken from her). I just hope they don't kill off dean it would be a mulder all over again (even if its temporary).

I have to say, I absolutely loved the episode "Tall Tales" with the Trickster in Season Two. I laughed pretty hard, particularly with the slow-dancing alien bit.
Trickster was pretty cool (plus he was played by Skip Muck from Band of Brothers). I like how the episode had both brothers portraying the other as a complete idiot in their retelling of the story.

I really didn't like the new female character. I was waiting for Dean to bop her in the face for shooting his brother. I could live with her taking the money that way. But instead she got one person killed, stole something from their father and shot one of them. Fuck that bitch.
On the plus side. "I'm Batman" and "Son of a bitch". Seriously, Dean carries that show.
Yeah Dean gets +100 points for the "I'm Batman!" quip. That was great. Dean really does carry that show when you think about it. I mean, Sam's got his moments, but overall if the show lost Dean it wouldn't be the same.
Well dean has always been the awesome brother. Sam will get all conflicted and Dean will just cap a fucker, and then screw a woman. Besides Dean uttered the awesome "Awkward".

He's killed supernatural things for less yes, I don't think I saw him ever kill someone he knew was just a human.

And Dean being comical is acceptable. But he has a great capacity for doing whatever he needs to do to get the job done despite the cost and for shooting his brother...yeah, he has killed for less. Even if it was slightly supernatural.
