Aaron Greenberg, Xbox 360 and Xbox Live Group Product Manager, confirmed that there will be no X07 taking place this year. Instead he said Microsoft will have to find other ways to release their big surprises such as dashboard updates and so on later this year. You can hear him confirm this on the newest Squad XP Podcast.
i care more about shit being released online and demos to my 360 and HD trailers then waiting three days after hearing about some sweaty fatass at gamespot playing it.

I am pretty sure there was post '07 stuff on the showroom floor, but yeah... not for public consumption.
Anyways, i don't think it really matters all that much; I think we are already inundated with so much news with regards to gaming nowadays that the big conferences feel like letdowns compared to how awesome they were in the past.

Interesting, with this and the E3 stuff it's almost as if the entire industry decided they're not going to announce things really, really far in advance anymore.

I think the rumors I heard about the Xbox devision taking a dive next year might be coming true.
Umm, whaaa?
Seriously, I know you hate Microsoft, but why would the division be taking a dive next year if they have already extended their warranty out three and are set to have the most profitable year in the divisions history?
What the hell are you smoking?

With all that has happened with the Xbox lately I am very much in the belief that Microsoft will be closing the Xbox devision soon. Almost every little piece of news I hear from 3 weeks ago about the Xbox is solidifying this in my mind. (Give me a sec, I will explain it in greater detail)

Vicious takes every look of bad news from microsoft as a sign of it's forthcoming doom. I thought we all knew this.

You better, because this sounds like a load of malarky.

More like they are holy shit this is costing us a ton of fucking money. Lets send out a press release and screen shots instead. Still this makes me sad. I really like getting weeks of awesome news rolling out.

You can still get weeks of awesome news without conferences.
I'd actually prefer this and have demos/trailers sent straight to my dashboard.

I am going to go ahead and preempt what Vicious is about to say.

A while ago the Xbox division at Microsoft was in high spirits because of Robbie Bach's announcement that the Xbox 360 would finally turn a profit in 2008.
This got investors and Microsoft higher ups happy, it looked like they were finally going to make money off of the whole Xbox idea. Most industry insiders figure that Microsoft knew about the 360 manufacturing issues a couple (3 or 4) months into sales of the console. However, because the division just released a brand new console a year early at a very high expense they decided to let the problem slide. Changing the production run so early would have caused the devision to lose a great deal of money, they would have had to increase the manufacturing cost of the console. After a while People started forming groups online to bind together in a class action lawsuit. (this recently started coming true and as of July 10th, one has been filed, regardless of the warranty)
Now keep in mind, Microsoft needed a way to get out of that and it seemed that expending the warranty of the console would work. Paying back everyone that payed Microsoft for a repair in the past and making everything seem all right. The division has once again gone back in the red. The devision had to spend allot for the warranty and the likes, and it would seem right now that they will not turn a profit (again) for another year or two (or more). The advantage of being the first on the market without competition is gone, and it looks like it didn't help.
Recently Microsoft has been tight lipped over what is coming out next year aside from Biohazard 5. I personally think that Microsoft has been pushing the whole 'play before 2008' deal because they don't plan on keeping the Xbox alive longer then that. Instead of closing the division now (this would be stupid because of there killer lineup of games) I think they plan on keeping it up until Christmas to get as many sales as they can before they close shop. Peter Moore leaving (regardless of what he says) was a forced move, or he left on his own free will because he didn't want to be associated with another console death.
This E3 Microsoft focused on what they are delivering now and what you can buy right now. This X07 being canceled I think is a sign that what I am thinking might be coming true. This is all just my personal view and insight into the matter so I could be very wrong.
Time will tell.

You expect me to believe that when you can't even spell "division"?
. Vicious better have a good reply. I'm expecting something along the lines of the three red rings are the first manifestations of Skynet, which will soon spread to all of MS. Only a heroic cyborg with a Cell processor can save us!
EDIT: Nevermind, Vicious replied. It was dumb and not funny.

Man, you'd have to be a complete moron to think the Xbox360 was going to be killed right now. Even if Microsoft were in the red, they could (and would) hemorrhage money until the end of time if it meant eventual dominance in a marketplace. This isn't even worth a point-by-point rebuttal.
So, basically, they're going to close the Xbox division because it isn't making any money...
If that was at all Microsoft's MO for the console market, there wouldn't BE an Xbox 360 in the first place.

Vicious: You are wrong.
There, that was easy. But just for you, I'll elaborate.
Just because they did not show 08 at E3 does not mean it is nonexistant. There are quite a few huge titles coming 360's way in 08, including Peter Jackson's Halo Project, Halo Wars, Fable 2, Banjo Threeie, Castle Crashers, Biohazard 5, Mass Effect 2 (supposedly), Alan Wake, Unreal Tournament 3, Fallout 3, etc. etc. All off the top of my head.
Did you consider that because they were able to fill 1 1/2 hours with material coming out this year that they did not have the need or the time to talk about 08?
Furthermore, EA, who has probably been in negotiations with Peter Moore for MONTHS leading up to this acquisition, has seen fit to give the most support tot he 360 with vastly superior versions of their 08 titles to your supposedly doomed console.
There are currently 4 million preorders for Halo 3 just waiting in the wings, and a ton of non preorder copies that will be bought as well.
So yeah... nice conspiracy theory, but completely unfounded.

So since "they lost money and aren't making a profit" is the reasoning, wouldn't xbox have closed shop a long time ago? Shouldn't PS3 be closing shop soon?

Xbox was a flash in the pan, 360 was supposed to get them the cash they wanted. I am also not saying they are done now, I think they will kill it off when all the sales they can make in 2007 are finished. Microsoft is a company guys, they have investors who are not happy about the division not making a profit. Ever.

So we've covered why MS isn't going to send out a Dashboard update on 01-01-08 saying
"OUT TO SEE CLOVERFIELD.
AND THEN TO WORK FOR NINTENDO DUE TO 360 DOOM OVERFLOW.
-The Management."
so what do you think about MS really shutting this down? Just saving money and pimping the 360 marketplace more?

Now all we need to make this forum complete is for Vicious to claim that he'll eat his dick if Microsoft does not close up the Xbox division in '08; and for everybody to sig it.

Microsoft has big piles of money from other divisions, and practically NOBODY at E3 showed stuff for release in 2008.
The end.

IF every console maker in the red were to close up shop, that would leave us with...nintendo.
So ya, I think the chances of MS killing off the Xbox division are slim to none. They won't just walk away from a multi-billion dollar industry.
