Is there any freeware I can nab to make PDF files? I'm working on a newsletter and we don't have Acrobat here (or at least, I don't). Any help is appreciated.

    CutePDF.

Works fine, gennerally the PDFs it makes are a little bigger than Adobe-brand, but nothing too major.

Not sure if it's what you want, but you can try www.cutepdf.com. You download a small program from them and install it. It will then appear on your list of printers in word, excel, etc. Create the document you want in word (or whatever program) and print to cutepdf, and you get a pdf version of the document you created.

    Hope that helps.

Both of them are right. Just make sure you install both CutePDF Writer AND the Converter linked on their page. You don't know how many times this program has saved my ass. So useful.

OpenOffice.Org can save in PDF, as well. I find it generally makes smaller files than the virtual printer programs.

Here is the obligatory LaTeX post...

LaTeX is a typesetting tool generally used by academics to typeset their journal papers and such. The windows version can be downloaded here:

A Windows IDE can be downloaded here:

It might seem daunting to write your paper in a non-WYSIWYG editor (like MSWord), but the results are generally good and you have complete control over the appearance of your document. If you are going for something more like a magazine, then this may not be a good tool, but if your newsletter contains mostly text, this might be something to look into.

    It's a rare thing.

You were less lazy, and actually made a link, though.
