So I built two computers recently. I was going to bite the bullet and buy Vista but after reading into it more I have decide to stick with XP till: there is a need for Dx10, SP1 or SP2, and/or a fatty price drop (hopefully all three).
So I have a copy of windows 2000 and XP professional upgrade CD laying around. Is it possible to upgrade Win 2000 to XP pro or does the XP upgrade only work on some flavor of XP?
Yes it is. You can even do a clean install by loading form the upgrade disc at boot time and then putting in the win2k disc when it asks to verify a valid license.
64-bit is not that useful on desktops yet. Also, a lot of manufacturers still don't have 64-bit drivers out. I couldn't get a 64-bit driver for the wireless NIC in my desktop, for example.
