Even though Crytek has moved onto the incredibly impressive Crysis with publishing partner Electronic Arts, their hugely successful Far Cry franchise -- currently being turned into a major motion picture by Uwe Boll -- remains in Ubisoft's court. Today, the company confirmed the inevitable: Far Cry 2 is coming.
In development at Ubisoft Montreal, the official unveiling will happen in the October issue of PC Gamer. We fully expect Ubisoft to confirm the game's coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well, but no word of that comes in the announcement release.
Far Cry 2 is penciled in for a spring 2008 release and Uisoft has launched a mostly blank website to accompany the teaser announcement. Stay tuned for more.
So with FarCry, FarCry Instincts, FarCry Instincts Evolved, FarCry Instincts Preditor, and FarCry Vengeance. Which one should I buy? Or should I just step away slowly without turning my back?
I never played any of the console versions, but the original Far Cry started out strong but after 5 levels or so I completly lost interest because It just started getting annoying. I dont think I ever got past the Treetops or Treehouse or whatever it was called level.
It's one of the times where people accusing the Wii of having n64 level graphics are correct.

I liked the original PC version well enough, even if
...the Trigen were stupidly difficult and annoying
But I have to admit, I did enjoy the multiplayer. Not the straight deathmatch, mind you, but the class-based "assault" type levels. I always picked the engineer class and the first thing I'd do upon spawning would be to leave everyone else behind to defend the first flag and go build up defenses for the others. Most times it was a close enough match that I was able to nearly complete my work at the final base before anyone was able to capture the first.
Then they'd get to a fully armed and operational second base, and their enemy became the clock.
I didn't really dig farcry. I hope Crysis fixes the issues of it.
As far as far cry 2 goes, I really can't see it being any good.
Also, Crytek has kind of fucked themselves on names. How many more titles with Cry can they possibly put together? Before long we'll end up with When Doves Cry or some shit.

Will Wright and Crytek are proud to announce the upcoming collaborative release of Cry Over Spilled Milk, a genre-defining next-gen dairy farming FPS/Sim.
I actually found the console version to be more entertaining than the PC one, because it took a lot longer to turn into a retarded festival of "forest full of enemies that can kill you in two hits and how the hell are you supposed to beat them without cheating".
The AI in Far Cry: Instincts (assuming that was the one for the original Xbox) wasn't that great - definitely nowhere near the original. The visuals were decent but not great by Xbox standards. However, I've never before played a game where you can crawl under cabins, flip onto your back, and use a silenced pistol to shoot up between the floorboards. And I tend to like games that allow you to use stealth, but which don't require it (Deus Ex: Invisible War and Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay are both games that do this well). I think the special powers could have been better-implemented, but that's okay.
I wouldn't say Far Cry 2 would be a definite buy for me but I'd definitely look into it.

The hero and protagonist, whose story the book follows, is the aptly-named Hiro Protagonist: "Last of the freelance hackers and Greatest sword fighter in the world." When Hiro loses his job as a pizza delivery driver for the Mafia, he meets a streetwise young girl nicknamed Y.T. (short for Yours Truly), who works as a skateboard "Kourier", and they decide to become partners in the intelligence business.

You know you want to milk cows in first person using a Wii remote and nunchuk...
The first bit of FarCry was infinitely replayable. I enjoyed the enemies, the choices, the feeling that I was hunted and standup engagements were suicide, so I had to pick and choose my battles.
Then it got stupid with the dumb mutants. I'd play through it and become a combination of frustrated and pissed off. It went from being hunted and choosing my battles, to replaying the same bits over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and etc hoping I'd either be a) just a few nanoseconds faster at something, b) just a bit luckier that somebody else would kill something or c) able to time that one crucial reload just right.
I've played 1/3 -- 1/2 way through several times, get pissed at it and leave it. I'll finish it eventually.

"Next gen udder-milking jubblie physics, now with waggle!"
Uh, I mean, Far Cry for the PC and Far Cry Instincts Predator are the only two worth playing.
*Has horrorfiying thoughts of Harvest Moon on Wii...*
Far Cry Vengeance was meant to be a PS2 game, but the project was cancelled... only to be ressurrected a year or two later to be thrown together and published for the Wii as a quick cash grab. Thanks Ubi. Jackasses.
The only positive thing about that game was the controls, which were like a refined version of Red Steel's. But still not excellent, like COD3Wii's.
Seriously. The game could have been a beta. fucking ubi.
HI5.
That disappointed me so much when I played the Far Cry demo on the XBox. I shouldn't be running down corridors on a tropical island in a game that I loved because I could go anywhere.
What I'm saying is, I hope they don't balls up a 360/PS3 port by putting walls and corridors in.

As for the games, all I know is that FarCry Instincts Preditor includes FarCry Instincts.

No Wii.

Unless you're joking, I wouldn't want to see what this would look like on Wii:
Only half joking, sadly enough. I know what the Wii is and is not but I just wish it was, you know, not so vagtastic under the hood.

If it will be really free roaming and non-linear I'm all over this!
The original Far Cry and Crysis claims to be sandboxy, but I think they're linear as hell.
This will hopefully be a lot more fun!
Oh god, so long as consoles don't get Far Cry 2 : Instincts-Evolution-Revolution-Faggotron-Watered Down-Derivative edition this news is ok.
