I'm wanting to install my new card, I open up the case and the blanks don't have screws securing them in, but the covers seem to be damn near impossible to get off. Can someone please tell me how to get the covers off.

It's an elite inspire case from mesh computers and it was a pre built pc

You could hammer them out, using a screwdriver or a chisel, but you'll need to be damned careful that you don't hit anything when you break it out.

If there's something holding the blanks in place, and it's not a screw, it could be a lot of different designs. Some slide off, some you squeeze and pull straight up, etc. What case do you have? Can you post a picture? Every time I've come across some new way to secure the cards and blanks, it ends up being really easy to remove, once you discover the trick. You don't want to damage it, since you'd probably need the same mechanism to hold the new card in place.

I don't believe it - I'm on my THIRD PS3, and my FIRST XBOX360. What the heck?

I've seen them, but only on pre-built machines, where the blanks are perforated. In that case they have to be broken out.

I've had a few low end cases with the perforated blanks, too. It at least didn't used to be all that uncommon.

pliers + elbow grease = new empty slot.

I've had some cheap ass cases in my time and they always have this shit. The only trouble is it's almost impossible to get them off without bending the rest of the case, just try and tease one part out and start bending gently. they look like they might be designed to pull away from the back of the case (away from the case i mean, not into it) and then they have to be waggled back and forth until the metal breaks? I've had a few like that anyway...

bloody nightmare things, the last case i built with had the exact same design on every single front bay too :S

It's kind of hard for me to be sure from the pic, but it looks like if you bend (towards the outside of the case) the part on the left hand side (with the little dimple in it) you would be able to push the cover into the case and then remove it by pulling to the left. I'm having to assume a lot though. If you could get a pic from the inside and one a little bit pulled back from your current one I might have a better guess.

Also, I've dealt with cases where you have to remove a plate that holds ALL of the covers and cards in place. You then have to hold all the cards and covers in place with amazing dexterity and/or the power of your mind while you put the plate back on. Really stupid design, imo.

Those look liek the kind of blank that are held on by a plastic or metal strip, possibly springloaded, on the inside of the case.

Post an inside pic of the case blanks (including where the card retainer screws would go).
