Brand Spankin' New Purchases! [7/22 - 7/28]

KimFidlerKimFidler Registered User regular
edited August 2007 in Games and Technology
Edit: Thread edited to basically include all tech purchases.

Week to week we all spend way too much money on games. It all begins with an innocent visit to your local games store, and ends with you walking out with 4-5 games and no way to buy food for the week.

While I'm passed the point of starving to support my gaming addiction, I still find myself buying games for the sheer value of having them. Old games, new games, games that I just want to have in my collection. I buy them, and companies keep putting them out.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, why fight it? Instead of bitching about buying games, post what you bought this week, or what you plan on picking up this week. Support each other in our quests to have the perfect collection that we can't possibly have the time to play.

July 15 - 21

I got pretty lucky this week in a couple trips to a couple local game shops.

Scored myself a copy of Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2 for $40. It's missing the instruction booklet, but it looks great in my DDS box set that I got with the original.

cover.jpg

Just today I couldn't believe it when I walked into a mom&pop shop and spotted a copy of Suikoden V for $25. I had never even seen this title in stores, so I picked it up asap.

I'm waiting for Disgaea 1&2 to arrive. I've been starved for a SRPG since I beat FFT (which was just before FFXII came out, for the supposed story links beside the name of the world).

I got a black DS lite yesterday. Whoo! I've been saving for one for a little while and they came on sale this week so I figured what the hell. Now I'm playing metroid on it and debating which games to pick up first.

What do you guys think of wario ware? I intend to get EBA, pheonix wright and all the other staples eventually, but I'd like something fun to just pick up and play for a few minutes that makes good use of the touch screen.

I bought Xyanide(Xbox) this week for $12, and it was worth every penny. I would've gotten it sooner, but I knew it'd drop lower eventually, and it did.

    Short, but sweet.

I haven't tried Wario Ware, but I suggest looking into Meteos or Planet Puzzle League. Both are very excellent and fit what you're looking for.

I bought Drill Dozer for the GBA a couple days ago. I'd say it was worth the $15, and the built-in rumble is spiffy. It's a shame the cart sticks out of my DS though. I'm considering picking up Pokemon Emerald, but I'm thinking I'd be better off trying to clear through my backlog and waiting for MP3, Phantom Hourglass, and the holiday season.

Yep, that's the one! I caught it on sale for $600 at Best Buy (reg $800). 24" 1920x1200, it has HDMI and component which both accept 1080p signals, so it's a damn sweet HDTV too (main reason I got it). Upscales 480i really nicely too which is a plus for the older consoles. I didn't think I'd like the stand opposed to a traditional monitor, but this one has controls on the front and has a really small footprint so I can push it right to the back of my desk.

I think I've had a solid week of gaming purchases. It only consists of three games, two of which aren't released yet.

I bought: Forgotten Realms Deluxe Edition DVD Pack for PC, which includes Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, Icewind Dale 1, Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter, Icewind Dale 2, Neverwinter Nights, Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide, Neverwinter Nights: Horde of the Underdark. All for $50. <3

I reserved, and fully paid off: Bioshock Limited Edition and Mass Effect, both for XBox 360.

    Woohoo!

I bought "All Pro Football", I think I did so entirely to support 2K games over EAGames.

Oh yeah... and while I was there I bought a Nintendo Wii... Which seems cheapish, until you buy another remote... and then realize... Damn! I need some games for it.

I kind of want to pick up Ninja Gaiden Sigma for my xBox360... I hear it is somewhat awesome.

I found something on my PC last week that was more fun than any game I had purchased for awhile...

3D pinball is deeper, and more complex than I ever could have imagined... It was made by Maxis too.

Play for 5 minutes, and you will play for five minutes.

Play for 30 minutes, and you will play for hours.

This weekend, I bought Gears of War, Transformers: Autobots, KOF 2006, and KOF 2002/2003. This will be my last big purchase of the summer, most likely. Gotta save up for September and Mass Effect/Halo 3. Of course, Virtua Fighter 5 is at the moment my only purchase for October.

If I get a Wii this summer, however, all this changes. Brawl, Galaxies, Bleach, Freeloader, and Gekitou Ninja Taisen 5/whatever it is all get added to the purchase list.

Not for major releases, but if there's a limited edition version of an Atlus or Nippon Ichi title, you bet your ass you should reserve it.

I have had trouble a few times. Last game I believe was Chrome Hounds for the 360. I am getting the game for sure, so why not pre-order it? I do live a small town so that could be the problem.

And to correct myself I reserved Super Mario Strikers sequel Mario Strikers Charged, not the original.

There was a thread on SA with linkage to a video showing off Dark Illusions. That sold me on the game.
