Don't get Mario Strikers Charged Football though, everyone touted it as the best thing since sliced bread, actually the game is so broken it is literally unplayable.
The only game I know to actually punish you for being skillful at a game (other than Mario Kart DS).
Don't get Mario Strikers if you hate fun and frollics.
Do get it if you like to play a game that, whilst having some gameplay exploits that people tend to use online, is awesome multiplayer, both locally and with people you know over the internet.

If you can get enough money I say Zelda and RE4. RE4 is 30$ brand new
I'd love to get both, but I just got the Wii, and I'm going to get Metroid, and I'm still buying a shitton of sound equipment, so I don't really have that much money to throw around unfortunately.
If I only played the original GC RE for about an hour, would I like RE4, or would I get frustrated and stop caring?

I would assume that if you only played an hour of RE4 in the past then you didn't have a Gamecube before getting a Wii? Same here, and I'd say that the best purchase I've made for my Wii would be Wind Waker and Metroid Prime 1. Maybe you could get a used copy of those two and the GC RE4? That's probably the best gaming value you can get in between now and MP3.

Resident Evil 4, get it now, play it, love it, best game fo all time (many say), I just love RE...so buy it and stop wondering.
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenchaichi 2 is an incredible fighting game, even if you utterly hate Dragon Ball Z, and fighting games, this game is incredible. Although, they are making "3", and adding like 30 more characters ontop of the like..120 they already had!

RE4 is absolutely nothing like the original. They have nothing in common when it comes to play mechanics. 4 blows 1 out of the water from a gameplay perspective. And if you have a Wii, you really should get the Wii version of RE4, as it plays better, has more extras, and is only 30 bucks (US)
This just showed up...complete with packed in Capri Sun and orange slice candy. It's not often I get lunch served with my games!
Where did you order that? Who includes a drink and candy with videogames?!
Or is that a promotional review copy Nintendo sent you? In which case, so awesome that they include drink and candy.

That's a review copy, silly.
Reviewers get all kinds of fun stuff. Not to mention free games.
As to the OP's question. Get RE4. Get Zelda later. Zelda is fucking great and everything, but RE4 will give you immediate fun. Zelda is one of them "takes a while to get going but then is totally worth it by the end" games. RE4 is "fuck yeah lets blow up some fuckin' zombies."
Does anyone else have a lot of trouble connecting to the Wii Shop/News Channel? I rarely, if ever get a connection through, but when I go to settings it says the connection is fine. I also play 360 and DS up in my room with no problem while the Wii is just feet away from the wireless router.

Well I thought it may be, but then I thought maybe he just ordered a UK version from an online store. I thought maybe including a snack with a videogame was standard fare.

Never had a problem. Sorry. My Wii is on the other side of a wall than the router. So it's only maybe 3 feet from the router as well.
Ok so I need a little advice here. I'm not too familiar with GC and Wii, just got mine the other day. My girl LOVES Paper Mario, and it has kinda become a gateway drug toward RPG's. Are there any super-light RPG's for GC or Wii that she might like? Nothing like FF or anything too complex, just hitpoints and items. The basics, I guess.

Got any examples? I've been playing strikers and find it to be an awesome multiplayer game with lots of depth. The only things that are "cheap" that I can think of are teleport goals and birdo sniper shots, but both of these can be countered. What examples of punishment for being good are you referring to? Is it about charging a ball, but having the goalie save it and they get a free charged ball on the counter attack?

Changing your router's wireless channel to 11 helped mine. Mine could connect before that tho. It was just a little slow and turning the channel to 11 sped it up.
I finally found a copy of Wii Play on my trip to the states, but I got home and opened it up and the little "warning" paper inside says to only use regular alkaline batteries in wiimotes. Um, what? I've been using rechargeable NiMH batteries in mine for awhile now. What difference does it make?
EDIT: Get Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition. I haven't touched Twilight Princess since I got it. It really is an amazing game.
I've had a chance now to play the Wii for a good 10 hours or so, probably more...
My initial impressions are mixed. First... It seems that Wii Sports is the best game made for it.
Second. Zelda TP is frustrating, the first temple dungeon doesn't seem to have anything logical going on, so I can't figure out how to complete it... I just keep getting monkeys to join me, I think I have 3 now, but one of them is lost and I can't find him anymore... I am guessing that I need monkeys to cross that fallen bridge, but I can't find any more of them and the three that I had for a short period of time didn't help me cross it.
Third. Resident Evil 4: I bought it, I played it for 20 minutes, and I got really frustrated with the controls. How the heck do you strafe? Running into a room facing the corner and then having to spin around and aim makes a shooter nearly unplayable.
It may sound like a lot of negativity, and it isn't all bad... I really have enjoyed the Wii sports with some friends, and the Wii interface is slick. But the two games that came highly recommended by everyone have yet to really pull me into them.

To be fair, from the games you played, Wii Sports is the only game made for the system.

Granted, but from this thread, the two I mentioned were pretty much universally praised as the finest games the system has to offer, in terms of single player action anyways.

You don't strafe in RE4. It has hence been designed AROUND the fact that you can shoot OR move. Yes, if you took those controls and spliced them into a normal shooter, it wouldn't work. But, if you spliced normal shooter controls into RE4, it would be vaguely comparable to shooting fish in a barrel.

The worst part is, that they are.
Don't let the sales fool you. Wii titles are really only a short step above the PS3. The only draw in favor of the former is price. If you really want a next gen console, get a 360. If you already have one, I'd save my money.

With a nuke.
Fair enough, knowing that the game knows that I can't strafe makes me feel a little better about it. The controls are really weird to me at first, but any new kind of game will probably have that learning curve, and I will probably pick it up.
But fighting with a gun without being able to strafe.... I don't know man, it just sounds like crazy talk...

It works. You've just got to learn to work with the controls.
Also, get used to the rifle's controls the fucking second you can get it. You will thank me towards the end.

If I remember correctly you keep bringing monkeys back to the center part of the dungeon to access new wings. I don't remember ever getting stuck on it though. If the first temple is giving you trouble, man, you are gon' get raped when you get to this game's water temple.
Refer to gamefaqs if you really can't find your way through that monkey temple. It'll probably be something that you'll hit yourself in the forehead about for not thinking of it.

You can insta-turn around with back + Z. It's useful for funneling zombies.
But yeah like everyone said, this is not a FPS by a long shot. Keep playing and it'll click soon enough, I promise.
Apparently I didn't know that you could blow up massive boulders with the exploding spider dudes... I am sorry, but this game didn't give nearly enough of an intro. I am completely new to Zelda, so I feel that there should have been at least a little bit of a tutorial on how the game workds... I also got stuck in the first town, I am catching on to a few of the zelda quirks now, but as a newbie this game just kind of expects you to know everything already.
No it doesn't. It expects you to explore and analyze your environment. In a room, you're given a spider that explodes a short while after being struck, and you have a conspicuous-looking rock. You don't need a tutorial to put 2 and 2 together.

Not many games these days actually do that, though. I can see how a first time Zelda player would get hung up on it.
Basic rule of Zelda: Try everything on everything. After a while it'll become pretty obvious to you what to do in different situations, Zelda has a number of tells that aren't obvious unless you've played before.
I still can't find a Wii, you lucky sod Although I only started looking about 2 weeks ago, I was still surprised to learn just how hard to find this fucker is! I am also somewhat worried that Wii Sports will be the coolest game on the system I would just buy a 360, but I'm hoping my other family members might actually play the Wii ..
