Plasma TV 'burning'

I just got a PS3 and i've heard a few vague things about games being able to burn an image onto the screen through extended use.

I've heard that LCD avoids the problem entirely but i've already got a Pioneer PDP-5070HD in my living room - I've been told that i dont need to worry since it's a flat screen and there's no projector or some such, which sounds absurd to me.

Will the tv being 'flat' change anything? my understanding is that 'plasma' means that there's a projector of some sort involved anyway, so i should be just as careful as if it was a full-sized plasma tv... am I wrong?

Any info/timeframes on the matter would be great, links are also welcome.

Most of what you have said is pretty much wrong, "flat-screen" doesn't mean anything except that it is flat, and plasma screens have no projector element at all.

    I suggest you read this:

Most new tvs have little to no problems in regard to burn in. If you are that worried for the first week or so every hour you are playing video games change channels and watch some tv for a minute.

A plasma TV can burn in, particularly earlier plasma TVs, but it’s unlikely to happen with most games as interface elements are usually transparent now, and between load screens and cinematics they get knocked off entirely now and then.
