Alien is an excellent horror movie.

Aliens is dumb action fare. Ok, good dumb action fare, but nowhere near the quality as a film of the original.

By dumb action fare I think what you mean to say is one of the greatest action films ever made.

I will say though, I did see Aliens on opening night in a huge, packed theater in Manhattan. That was a movie-going experience that I'll never forget. Everyone all cheering and shouting at the screen. Especially when Paul Reiser's character got waxed by the aliens.

I realize I'm in the minority in saying this, but I even loved Alien3 because I realized that each of these 3 movies is thematically very different. Just as the first film was a horror film and the second was an action film, the third was a drama about Ripley's relationship to the aliens and how this has come to define who she is. I enjoyed how the alien growing inside her was metaphorically presented as being analogous to cancer and how she is pulled between just wanting to end her life and her instinct to try and survive if even just for another day.

Alien vs. Predator follows that trend, being a great example of a comedic masterpiece

Makes you wonder what could have been if they had let Fincher make the movie he wanted to make.

I always thought Alien 3 or 4 should have been a huge invasion of Earth. But Starship Troopers stole that idea.

    And murdered it.

    It's a decent comedy.

But it's a horrible action flick and probably the worst sci-fi/horror film ever made ever.

Well, the novel was a satire. The film tries to be as well, although Verhoeven isn't very subtle.

That's a size-ably retarded statement considering the likes of "Battlefield Earth", anything ever created by Uwe Bol and the entire Critters franchise.

Starship Troopers is a piece of B-movie exploitation art. And Michael Ironside scowls a lot.
