I guess you guys have a point. Dynasty warriors has always been an ip that makes me grit my teeth every time people talk about it and or play it. It's ok the first time but god dammit after Dynasty Warriors 3573 it gets ridiculous.
I don't want to sound like a troll, but seriously what the fuck is this shit? Its Gundam(I'm a big Gundam fan) but even I am not blinded by the fact that this is just Dynasty Warriors in the future with robot skills. What makes this worth buying/playing at all?
On a serious note, alot of people like the Dynasty Warriors style of gameplay despite it's obvious flaws. Its not so outrageous that they would buy something that is so largely the same game, since that is pretty much what the sequels are.
This was way more fun than it should have been. It took me two or three goes to really figure it out, but after that it was just taking out aggression from work out on those poor Zaku bastards.
Yea, it's good mindless fun. I'm not a Gundam fan at all, but the simple yet fun hack and slash gameplay is enough for me.
I'd buy it if it were a budget title. (Most likely not a budget title)
Yeah, I agree. It seems like one of those games I would play to death until I beat it, then forget about it forever. I can't see the multiplayer being terribly exciting (unless it's coop, I guess). The last boss fight was waaaay too easy, though.
After playing the demo I'd say it's about everything you could want from a game called Dynasty Warriors : Gundam. Just blow up ridiculous amounts of enemies in a giant robot.

According to a gamespot thread I found from a google search, co-op is in.
Man, is this why Japanese people bought PS3s? It's an alright hack-and-slash, but it's not a system seller. But I guess if it says Gundam on the box, it actually is a system seller over there.
There are a few different button for combo attacks.
(360 Controls)
X-X-X-X does a saber multi-hit combo with a spinning uppercut, fairly useful, takes out some grouping.
X-X-Y two hits with a saber, then grabs a guy and shoots him pointblank. Shot may travel through.
X-X-X-Y (I think) does a multi hit attack, then follows with a pair of shots from the beam rifles, one pointing each way. After first pair of shots, Wing ZERO does a 90 degree turn and does the same. Fairly useful if fighting in groups.
A + Direction - X-X-X Dash attack with sabers. Fairly quick, helps with bosses.
RB then A to go to Birdy mode, then X-X-X - More or less the same as dash attack.
Y by itself is mostly useless, but it can be used to try and stun some of the bosses (worked on Epyon) so that you can dash in close.
Other than that there isn't much to the move list. About the same as a regular Dynasty Warriors. I might get it when it comes out...probably be too busy playing Bioshock though.

Man, you're missing the best move out of all of them. X-X-X-Y (I think) does a move where Wing Zero charges a shot and fires a beam you rotate around for a few seconds. Awesome on bosses, because you can hold it in one place and rack up multiple hits.

The majority of Gundam games that aren't SRPGs actually don't do too hot.

The Crossfire game sold really well in Japan for a PS3 game.

I'll be trying the demo over the weekend. I liked the first DW that I played, I think it was either 2 or 3, but the rest were just the same, with recycled textures and graphics. Honestly, I think KOEI is one of the laziest developers ever.
Nighty-Nine Nights was refreshing, but even then, it proved that pretty graphics can't do much to save a hack and slash game. I'm convinced what a hack n' slash game needs is an epic storyline, with much radio chatter, so at least the atmosphere would save things.
Is the atmosphere frantic/epic/pwoar in anyway for this installment?
its from the first mission, but there is quite a bit of radio chatter (you pick english or japanese) that pertains to your mission, or just the main characters talking to/about eachother.
its really cool when fighting a boss that if you both hit your melee attack at the same time, your weapons will lock together, the screen will zoom in, and your character and the boss will each shoot off a one liner before going back to battle.
id like to see a roster of all playable gundams in the game, and if they added any new ones since it came out for ps3 japan awhile ago.

There's another one where you do the super blast business, but once you finish, your character talks to the master asia dude all "i don't need your help," and master asia goes "shut your mouth boy," then you fly up in the air and shoot another super blast down at whoever.

Who exactly is this Master Asia fellow? That's quite a strange name.
When's the release date for this? Please God don't say, like, September. There's only so much money to be spent that month. Damn budgets.

Right, this is definitely a must buy. If only because some of the attacks are awesome when executed in the whole officer death slow-mo mode. It's pretty entertaining to trigger the first charge attack, just as the enemy dies, causing you to ram your laser gun/beam/whatever through a gundam's abdomen, and then fire it, causing the robot to explode into a million pieces.
Also, I can forsee alot of late game battles becoming insane dash/slash-fests if the officer AI continues to ramp up the same way it was in the demo mission. Puru and Haman were nothing, but Domon and the boss gundam were pretty nuts. I found myself dashing around to keep up with the AI a couple times in those fights.
Someone tell me why you guys are into this? is it just the Gudam part? cause I love gundam.
( i copied this from my own made thread about DW:G )
I played the old Dynasty Warrior games awhile back, and last night, to the chagrin of all of my friends I downloaded the demo for Dynasty Warriors Gundom, thankfully not on my 360, and I seriously just do not get it. why do people enjoy it, not just the gundam, but Dynasty Warriors in general? There is zero game play. I understand the whole battle huge armies deal...but you dont do anything. Its like Diablo Hack and Slash without...well...any of the good stuff!! Its just hundreds upon hundreds of mindless, actionless characters who make their way ominously towards your character only to swing weakly with some pointless weapon before being blasted apart by your attacks. most of them dont even swing at you. Dead Rising was the same thing!! THERES NO GAMEPLAY...."X" "X" "X" "X" "A" (speed attack!!!)....rinse repeat.
finally along comes a different colored different armored warrior who has different attacks, but hes still in the midst of the huge mindless horde...so you just keep slashing.
how are there like 5 Dynasty Warriors?! Who keeps buying these games?
I think when they used to talk about video games making zombies out of us they must have been watching someone playing Dynasty Warriors (or maybe recently...Nintey-Nine Nights )
Because sometimes, a mindless hack and slash fest with no worrying about stats or weapons or levels or any of that bullshit is entertaining. Sometimes, I just want to butcher a whole slew of enemies who have no chance against me just to see their bodies fall to the ground and dissapear adding another body to the tally in the corner of the screen. It's the same reason I played Double Dragon back on the nintendo, or the TMNT game in the arcades.
Another question, does this cover any specific Gundam series, or is it pretty much everything that's ever worn the Gundam title?
People like things other people don't. Is this such a shocker for you?
I don't like Gundam and I found some enjoyment out of this. Not exactly a must buy for me, but it is something I might check out at a more reasonable price.

See this is a viable answer, and I have to agree to a point. That whole "some people like things you dont" is a load, that doesnt answer the question.
Butchering mindless enemies can be fun, I guess I just choose to do that in FPS's as opposed to this form. Although, I did always want a Resident Evil akin to Jill Valentine alone against the mindless hordes of Racoon City. Dead Rising does not deliver at all.
Now, I'm a big fan of hack and slash, and when I was younger, I was into Gundam, so I decided to give this a try.
Holy crap, it's fun. I did pretty much all the combos, and saw what you could do with each. I must say, the sector improvement is really nice, because I tried to just bypass the Easternmost sectors to get to the boss, and he was significantly harder than my second playthrough where I cleared as much as possible. You can link combos with the superattack button, and lay down a ridiculous laserbeam. I tended to use the XXXY combo alot, the two shots are great for when the enemy surrounds you. Got about 20-30 kills per use.
If you're into Dynasty Warriors, and want a change, download this and play it through. Give it a chance, there's gold in there.
why do people enjoy it, not just the gundam, but Dynasty Warriors in general?
There's plenty of reasons why I like them.
First off, there's the sheer amount of characters and the differences between them. For instance, Hanzo Hattori in SW2 is ridiculously quick and can double jump, whichs gains him access to areas others can't get to. Then in DW5 there's Ma Chao, who is monsterous when mounted on a horse. And then when I get sick of them, I can move onto another character.
There's also a crapton of levels in pretty much all the 'Warriors' games. Some of them will be absolutely mindless crap while others can be pretty fun. And again, when I get sick of one I can easily just move onto another.
A lot of the missions do have a fair amount of strategy as well. You're usually given a bunch of orders and if you follow them, some cool event will happen. Or you could just ignore the orders, charge into the opponents base and kill the leader. Basically, I can do whatever I like (unless I piss around not doing anything and fail the mission).
And lastly, after work I enjoy throwing it in the PS2, listening to a podcast and killing peasant scum.

Yes! Curse those pesky peasants! I do love the graphics of Dynasty Warriors, I just could never get into it really. I think the last one I played was 4. Is 5 on the Ps2?
All of them are on the PS2, among other consoles, except the first one, which was for the PS1. The series has grown incredibly stale at this point; I used to love it, but it hasn't evolved at all, and in some aspects has actually gotten worse. They're making the 6th one from scratch on the PS3, so that'll be exciting at least.
I doubt this game has any significant gameplay improvements, but at least the Gundam aspect and new technology will set it apart from all the other Warriors games.
Cherrn on
All creature will die and all the things will be broken. That's the law of samurai.
While I haven't bought the 5th Dynasty Warriors game, I've enjoyed the mindless hack and slashing in small sessions because it's something I find enjoyable. Some others I know who play the games enjoy being able to run around and kill/maim/destroy thousands of soldiers/peasants etc in a single map.
If I wanted a challenge, I'd play the game on a hard difficulty and try to keep as many NPC generals on my side alive, since that can be pretty difficult to do depending on the map.

So do I. I was amazed how cheap you can get the offical US release of it. I think DVDpacific had it for $12 when I finally broke down and ordered it.
