i'm about to take my laptop (spanky) into the shop, most likely to get a new hard-drive
it can be an emotional time. you back up your 'data' and your stuff but there's so much personality that goes into the system you spend so much time in front of, it can never be captured fully by a mere DVD-R
and what if it's worse? what if it never comes back? i have an attachment to this little rectangle. i mean it has stickers and everything
has anyone else been oddly affected by a plastic box with a heart of gold?
if for some reason one needs work, I can firewire everything from one, to another, and it creates a perfect clone drive.
kinda like suspended animation for computers. transfer it back and everything is transferred. passwords, browser cache, links, settings, prefrences... everything. I did it when my new macbook needed a new video card, transferred everything over to my G4 and a week later my new macbook was here and boom, like it never left.
Apple does Mac's from top to bottom. The software, mostly all the hardware (correct me if I'm wrong) while there are tons of different manufacturers for PCs and their parts.
If you choose, you can build your own PC from parts. Macs are always made into whole computers and sold that way.
Macs are better for video processing, editing (from what I hear) and PCs are more game and office oriented.
i am starting to grudgingly adore my macbook
at first i was like meh os x isnt all that much better
but while it isnt all THAT much better, it is noticeably better
also, I like completely formatting my harddrive every once in a while
if my bootup times are longer than 30 seconds, time for a format
I just got a PowerBook Ti. 667 MHz G4 with OSX 10.1
It's crap, but I got it for free. Case is all destroyed, speakers no worky, DVD drive only reads 1/4 of the time. But it'll serve its purpose - to learn OSX and probably break some more.
I've always been a Windows guy. Guess that's why I support them for a living. But any more, I'm just tired of all the backups and reinstalls and stupid fucking errors that even Windows doesn't know what's going on. So once I'm familiar enough, I'm gonna sell all but one of my Windows boxes and pick up a new MacBook.

That's a good start I guess.
Thanks. I was curious because my laptop runs extremely slow and is generally sucky and I've heard people rave over Macs. I mainly use it for school, meaning goofing around on the internet and occasional word processing. I have a few games on here but maybe I shouldn't play games at school. haha

Don't get me wrong, it's a rocky road of trials and tribulations.
It crashed early last March and hasn't been the same since
I think the tech guys at my college did things to it

Damn dogs.
I let my brother pick my laptop when I went to college
Someone tell me what the differences are between PCs and Macs other than no right-clicking

No I'm pretty sure you've realized that you've already made the best threads you could.
Face it, you're over the hill, past your prime.
You have no good threads left.

That's it.
Break me off a switch, son.
You're going out to the wood shed.
Maybe this is why my local Craigslist is down. Bsjezz, the happy Craigslist elves are on their way to your house. The website told me so.
