Disgaea - Where everything is a grind fest.

I wasn't sure I had it right, but I wasn't assed to check. Genji is in FF6, right? Genji's glove, or something.
This is way off topic, but I just now discovered the 'view first unread' link at the top of the threads.
Real life facepalm. So yeah, you can feel better now.
e: Oh, and thanks Mighty, I'll probably pick up the first one tonight.
Do you know about throwing things diagonally?
Yeah, I had to take Leharl out to the training map to throw a ghost into the start tile just to see it. Yup. you can.
Now you... explain this diagonal tossing about of characters... I must know post haste.

the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
You unlock monster classes by encountering them, and human classes through Dark Assembly bills (and the Beastmaster classes by capturing a monster). To unlock a higher rank of the class you need to get the next lowest rank up to a certain level, which increases for each rank. If you don't want to look up the numbers, just occasionally check to see what classes can be reincarnated into.
You can either reincarnate when you unlock a new class for that character or wait until most of your team is ready and do them all at once. I tended towards reincarnating everyone at once. One of the characters that joins your party starts at level 1, so that might be a good time to do a mass reincarnation if you haven't done so already.

Sure. I played through, and beat D1, using only 1 generic Fighter.
D2 has no main character healer (can Flonne heal?), so going with just the main characters would be trickier if you're not already familiar with the game.
Flonne does have a healing spell or two, but she doesn't have the full range of spells available to clerics.
Healers aren't terribly necessary in Disgaea, anyway. Unless you want to unlock certain higher character classes, you don't really need them.

So, as the animation is happening then? That's probably the problem. I think the source I read before implied trying to time the button press while the target cursor is switching.
Item World.
Every 10 levels in any item (even wussy ones like Mint Gum) one will appear as a bonus item. Just keep plowing through, you'll eventually accumulate a ton.
If you're worried about getting stuck in the item world, start with an item (like the aforementioned Mint Gum) that you can clear easily.

They just announced Disgaea 3 for the PS3.
Damn you, N1! Damn you for giving me a reason to consider buying a PS3!

Actually, in D2, you only unlock the lowest monster in the tier by encountering it. Then you need a monster of that tier on level X before you can use the next tier. You can capture them instead of levelling if you want, but you can't capture things above the tier that can create.
Yeah, that's what I meant. What's the actual terminology for this kind of thing, is it Tiers of a Class?
Ah I see, thanks.
I mean, after the first battle I gave Laharl a gun and kept giving him better guns.

You are aware that he sucks with guns right... as opposed to every single other weapon.
I thought that was the point of the game. Being difficult and all.
Any game can be made difficult by playing stupidly. "B button? Eff that shit, Mario's a speedwalker." "Sword? Pah, I have a shield, those moblins are screwed."
You've gotten me readdicted to Disgaea 2 and I'm going for the worst ending (the only ending I haven't seen yet. )
Adell's my strongest char at level 2500 but he's never been reincarnated, so I think he's underpowered and sucks at the moment. Rest of my party's around the 1800-2000 mark. Should I just do a mass reincarnation of my team and go from there? Or just keep powerlevelling? I'm not sure which will end up taking me the longest to do. :P
Have you tried losing?
Edit: Oh, it locks you in, then.
Even just levelling them 20, 30, 40 levels can give you a HUGE boost.
What should I give him, then? Spear?

You see those letters on his status screen? Think they might mean anything? Maybe ability to use those weapons?
Swords. You have little reason to use any other weapons for your fighters.
