This is actually my first post on these here forums. I have read the PA archives from beginning to end a few times, and I know how much the guys love TRIBES:

In effect, they are shutting down the master game server for TRIBES (pretty much like if Valve killed their Steam platform, effectively crippling those games). The only hope for the future of online TRIBES play is if someone were to reverse-engineer server code (or if Sierra were to release it).
For several years now you have been able to download TRIBES and TRIBES 2 for free. TRIBES was one of (if not
the) most heavily modified games ever (there exist something along the lines of 80 different modifications for it).
My first experience with it was way back in March 2005. I had been invited to a LAN party in one of the NJIT dorms over Spring Break. Half a dozen guys sat around and played old school games like Starcraft, Delta Force, and Starsiege TRIBES.
I was amazed at the depth of the game... all of the cool things you could build and do. I laughed when one of my friends was walking around the edge of the map as a sniper and got shredded by one of my randomly placed remote turrets. "Who the hell puts turrets on the edge of the map?" is a phrase that still makes me chuckle to this day.
Over that short weekend, I fell in love with this game. I could not fathom how they could cram this much gameplay into a file that was roughly 100 MB. There was no amazing bump-humping lighting or whatever, no DirectXover9000... just good gameplay.
Oh, and for those of you who might be thinking I am an older dude, I am not. I am 21. Sadly, I did not have Internet in the glory days of TRIBES... oh how I would have loved to play the game in those days. I was a new fan to the game, and barely two years after I discover it I learn it is being sent out to pasture.
So, here's to TRIBES! Let's hope one day it rises from the ashes so gamers can go back and enjoy what was always an excellent game.

Though for a first post this isn't a bad effort, better than the OP in that other thread.
