Late Night Foruming Phenomena

Sometimes when I'm using my headphones on the computer late at night I hear funny sounds. Funny sounds when I'm scrolling through these (particular) forums.

It sounds kinda like a mixture of the music from that scene in 2001 A Space Odyssey where the dude is walking through that white bathroom after travelling through the star gate. But played through a midi device.

I like to think its the sound of God crying.

I posted that in another thread, but it got locked. Plus it gave me an idea for a thread.

Do you guys ever experience strange things while foruming in the dead of the night? Things you might not otherwise be aware of because you'd be sleeping? Things you'd overlook if you weren't keeping extra quiet because everyone in the house is asleep? Or just creepy things on the internet or computer itself.

And if the original purpose of this thread is lost, just hijack it into another "creepy stories" threads because those are always good for making me tingly.

When I'm on the computer late at night, I'm either playing a game or looking at porn. I hear all kinds of things from both of those.

Okay fine you guys are doodie heads. Apparently I'm the only one who gets messages from God, which I'm cool with, because if I'm the only one getting it.... thats hella messianic cred.

This one time I was using the laptop to read SE++ in bed before sleep, and there was a post about cocks and dicks or something, and all of a sudden I hear moaning and "oh year give it to me" come out of the laptop speakers. I was freaked out for a second before I noticed that a porn film had finished loading in another tab.

I think the state of mind you get into late at night is more fun

You start thinking that the stupidest things are filled with such profundity

my computer makes some weird sounds including some crackling and stuff when the speakers are turned up and theres no sound playing on the computer

it is easier to notice with headphones

i think its just because the sound output on my computer is crappy and picking up a bunch of interference from other parts of the computer or just crappy

    is your sound card crappy

    try this
turn your speakers way up and see if you hear hissing sounds
then switch tabs or alt-tab or something and see if you get some aural response

I knew a guy who was an insomniac, needed medicine to sleep. His parents went away on a 2 week vacation and he was left at home. He had enough pills for exactly four nights of deep, restful sleep.

Apparently when his parents got home his mom found him arguing with a wall about how best to string honey bees into an elaborate necklace.

I get that kind of feedback with the headphones all the time, but sometimes I also get that psycho babbling sound that doesn't appear when I have my speakers up way loud.

On an old motherboard with really crappy AC97 audio I used to get things like that all the time.. I'd be sat there with my headphones on and I could hear browser windows scrolling and hear the highlights on menus.

    Very odd.

In college one of my roommates was seeing a girl with a sleeping disorder. The way it was explained to me is that she can't naturally go into a REM phase and needs to take pills to help her sleep.
One night she came home and was stressed out about shit and took double her normal dosage because her thinking was "I want to go right to sleep and forget about this shit."

Her roommate thought she was trying to kill herself and the girl ended up being put in the local asylum for observation. She was put in on Thursday and by Friday they were confidant she wasn't going to hurt herself and she just needed someone to pick her up, check her out, and bring her home.

We didn't get the call that she needed a ride until it was too late to get there in time and she had to spend the weekend in the asylum until she could be checked out on the following Monday.

Was she raped by maniacs? Was her bastard offspring a serial killer who liked to put razors on a glove and kill people via their dreams?

When I'm wearing headphones with no music playing, they do emit a sort of feedback squeal, and my scroll wheel affects it.
When I roll the scroll wheel, each click over of the wheel changes the pitch and tone ever so slightly, then back to the normal sound.

That effect always made everything you did on the computer more like the movie Hackers. But the sound of my harddrive reading was actually a useful sound, though. It gave a more instant understanding of at what moment my computer was ready for new input. Process Explorer gives a better image of how busy the CPU actually is, when you have the activity level displayed in that nice little tray icon, though.

But the interference noise that I remember the most was minimizing and maximizing windows. It struck me as very funny that they actually made a sort of sliding noise. The sound would slide down when minimizing, and up when maximizing. Very cartoony.

I've got time on my hands so I naturally (for me) went into "nocturnal mode". I go to bed at noon or so.

But while surfing forums at night, no, I haven't seen or heard anything scary. Sometimes I see things crawling at the edge of my vision, but they're just shadows, though.

I would like to pause for a moment, to talk about my penis.
My penis is like a toddler. A toddler—who is a perfectly normal size for his age—on a long road trip to what he thinks is Disney World. My penis is excited because he hasn’t been to Disney World in a long, long time, but remembers a time when he used to go every day. So now the penis toddler is constantly fidgeting, whining “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? How about now? Now? How about... now?”
And Disney World is nowhere in sight.

I fell asleep once while playing Pokemon and the DS didn't close (DS lites go into 'sleep' mode when they close, effectively pausing a game for hours and hours without draining hardly any battery) and I lost my progress and had to go through it all again. Now when I play DS in bed I plug that sucker in.
