Ok, this is driving me crazy - what do you call those leather shin guard thingees (that the crude red arrows are pointing toward) in the above picture?
Spats. Which allegedly are back in, for some godforsaken reason. I refuse to believe this, and am convinced that some asshole fashion blogger is attempting to fool as many people as possible.
I thought spats were more for dress shoes - a 20s mobster kind of thing. Gaiters are more for hiking, and half chaps are for horse riding. His uniform looks like a horseback policeman of some sort to me. At any rate, it is arguing semantics now. Turn on image safe and gis for them. All three answers are right.
