I can't recommend any particular sites (as I don't fly often), but my flights are normally international and very expensive, so the advice I can give: give a lot of thought to when you order. Prices vary spectacularly over time, approaching the date of takeoff.
I was going to make a new topic, but this thread seems appropriate for this sort of question and my own contribution.
For the best site for summing up all the online cheap flight searches, use Kayak.com. It compiles the data from all the major online flight booking places while also offering a good variety of flexible search tools. Good stuff.
But what I'd really like to know is...
How the hell does one get a good cheap flight at the last minute?! I've been forced to take some last minute flights due to job interviews and I'm getting completely beat around by the airlines. I've tried calling them directly. Using their website. And all I get are outrageous prices that seem to have no basis in reality. Does the "Name your own price" thing work on some of these sites? Is there a trick to calling and talking to the people I don't know?
We're talking domestic flights only halfway across the country totaling like $1000, by the way. Some of these flights cost more than it cost me to go to New Zealand.
