My wife has to read a passage for her sister's wedding. But, how do you verbalize the "title" or whatever this is?

1 Corinthians 12:31-13:8a

It might depend on the church you're at -- when my dad lectors for Catholic mass, the intro would be something on the lines of "A reading from the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians" (no chapter or verse).

Some just have the location of the reading listed in the program, and then just read it without introduction or with the minister introducing a reading "from 1st Corinthians."

Heh, that's a good area for wedding material. My wedding ring is inscribed with "1 Cr 11:11-12".

Also, I'd leave off the "a". Nobody needs to know that she's only technically reading part of verse 8. I've been to about every type of service around and I've never heard anybody actually say "a", even in the rare times when it's used.

Those are good points as well. Alot of the time you will hear them say something really close to what seasleepy said. A quick chat with their priest would probably give you an idea of how he thinks you should introduce it.

You actually don't HAVE to say "chapter" and "verse". Generally, you can leave those out, and they are implied in the way you say it. If I were reading that out loud, it'd go like this:

    "First Corinthians Twelve-Thirty-One through Thirteen-Eight."

When you say "Twelve-Thirty-One", it's pretty obvious that you mean Chapter 12 Verse 31, but it sounds much more concise and rolls off the tongue a little easier.
