Wow, a bunch of sweet deals are up on slick deals at the moment.
I was hunting for a student laptop and ran across these.
First off:
$473
Lenovo Core 2 Duo (1.6) (800 mhz FSB, 2mb cache though) thinkpad R61
512 Ram is not the best but its DDR2 5300 and with XP you should be good for all that word processing and surfing in class.
Link Downgrade the CPU and to vista basic and add the 10% discount (You will see an "Your order qualifies for 10% discount" offer in the top right corner of the cart. Click "Apply discount" link).
Wow, those are both really nice deals. Don't forget those are before warranties, and you're going to want to get a decent warranty. Expect to add $200 or so for a good one.
BTW, if you want to get sneaky, the Dell XPS 700 have an issue with their Motherboard -- sorta. They work, just not very well at Benchmarks, so Dell is giving away a quad core capable Motherboard upgrade for them. If you wanted to be sneaky, you could buy a XPS 700 for pretty cheap nowadays and upgrade to the Quad Core Motherboard and take advantage of the 25% off a Quad Core CPU option when that becomes available...
Said upgrade is going to be available August 13th.
Here's Details of the deal.
(Synopsis:
- Free Motherboard with Free on site installation of said Motherboard
- Option to buy a Quad Core CPU at 25% off and get it installed at the same time.
- Offer only good until October 13th)
Unfortunately Dell took the 700 off the store due to too many people buying them in anticipation of that, but you can still get them at The Dell Outlet (Used) Store.
I ordered the Lenovo last night myself and for some reason, when I hit the order button it produced me with a total of 604.xx, i checked my credit card statement and the confirmation they emailed me and I was charged 658.97, as in the 10% off wasn't applied...shady.
Either I was really tired and didn't see what I was doing or I just got boned, it's a deal none the less but I'm pretty sure it's legal to tell someone that you're charging some amount and then charging another...
Hope I can give them a call tmrw morning and get a refund or cancel and re-order.
I just talked to Lenovo, a sweet Indian girl informed me that they're canceling all T61 orders with the 1.66 CPU that were placed over this past weekend as the -275 was a typo.
And they can get away with it as they have a disclaimer stating that they're not responsible for typos.

Damn. No lappy for me I guess.
Really? Fuck, my girlfriend is going to be upset. I assume it's for all the discounted CPU's right? Not just the 1.66? Because she ordered the 1.60 with 800mhz fsb, whereas the 1.66 had like 667 fsb. I assume it won't matter, and it will be cancelled.
Please note your recent order for an R61 ThinkPad notebook will be cancelled due to an unforeseen error on our website. We apologize for any convenience this may have caused you.

Where was this deal two months ago when I was looking at Lenovos, and went with a $500 Dell instead?
