So I've been having this problem for the past week or so... basically the DVD drive in my laptop doesn't recognize that I've changed the cd that's in it, and it doesn't load the new cd. I noticed it first installing the Civ 4 expansion, because when it got to "insert disk 2" I'd change the cd's, the drive would spin the cd up (or at least, sounds like it is), but nothing would refresh in explorer, and the installation wizard was treating it as though the 1st cd was still in the drive. The right click-refresh thing didn't change anything either... I think I finally got it to install by just sitting at that screen for an hour, and it finally had switched over to recognizing that cd2 was in the drive.
The drive works fine for loading what's actually in it when it's right (e.g., the civ4 expansion ran fine once I got it to install finally), but now I'm still having the same problem with other cd's... is this a common issue when the drive's starting to die, or should I be hunting for driver fixes? There's no obvious newer drivers on dell's website that I can see (it's an XPS gen2 laptop), but who knows
