Okay, I have a Wii. This Wii has, up until now, worked fine.
Today I went to play the Wii. When I put a disc in, it doesn't start up, and after a minute or two, I get a black screen with the text "An error has occurred. Press the Eject button and remove the disc, then turn the Wii console off and refer to the Wii Operations Manual for help troubleshooting.". This, obviously, had been of no help, so I turn to you fine folks.
Anything I can do that doesn't involve sending it in?
Tried a standard disc driver cleaner thingy? (type available from Tandy/Radioshack/EB whatever) That'd be my kneejerk reaction. Unless your error message specifically mentions something other then a dirty drive.. S:

Anyone else know if these things actually work?
The weird thing is it's making this kind of...Not a clicky noise, but a moving sort of noise for a split second, twice in a row, then a slight delay, then it does it again.

Sounds like the problem my brother had after he dropped his Wii. You have a misaligned laser. Email/Call nintendo, they'll fix it right up.

Well, at least it isn't the motor burning out or something. Not sure how in the hell it would've gotten misaligned, but no matter. I'll send an e-mail their way, then.

The one time my Wii's drive wouldn't read a disc, it just gave me a standard disc read error message (something like, "Unable to read the disc"). It wasn't as ominous as yours. That was with a Gamecube disc though.

You put a disk in, any disk, makes a weird noise, tries to spin, makes the noise, makes the noise. This means for whatever reason the laser can't read the disk. It's a simple fix. He got his Wii back in like 7 days.
Try switching the wii off (totally off, hold down the power button till the light turns red) and leave it off for a while. Switch it back on and give it 5 mins for the fans to kick in. Now try booting a disc.
I've had this on some import Gamecube discs and once on my import Super Paper Mario, leaving my Wii off (rather than 'Orange' with Wii24 enabled) has stopped it coming back.

Sweet. Well, I've sent in the form, and my Wii's still well under warranty, so it'll be free to boot.
I apologize in advance for taking up the queue alongside those adorable Nintendo Dogs and preventing more Wiis from being made.

I checked. Multiple times.

Unless it's vertical, then it faces right.
I've almost put them in upside-down a few times.
They eject if they dont go in properly i think.
