Thanks guys, haha MS that's actually kinda what I was going for. This one's actually pretty similar but the only reason I took the picture of this one was because the machete stuck into a tree when I threw it from about 20 ft away. One of those "holy shit that was amazing and I couldn't do it again if I tried" kinda moments.
Don't think I like it as much as the axe one though.
Edit: I love all of those pictures Shake, I especially like the bottle one or whatever that is. Very interesting and a great B&W photo.
Ok, just out of curiosity does anyone here write down photography ideas? Like have a journal, that tracks down your ideas. Just wondering what everyone does to get inspiration because this month my photos are low than average, just can't find/think/visual subjects.
Also other question
Are these good beginner lens set Linky

As for your other question: I carry my camera around pretty much 24x7 and all of my shots are just stuff that strikes me in a particular moment. I have found a scenic area outside of Austin in the "hill country" that faces west and I plan on shooting sunsets there for a while until I get something nice. I know in the future I want to shoot awesome landscapes (literally, landscapes that are awe-inspiring ... not that my photos will be) but that's going to require traveling to beautiful places. I don't have these ideas written down, but they are more categorical rather than specific shots.

Same here, theres only a short window about twice a week where I don't have my camera with me. I also attempt to take different routes to the same places in hopes of finding new things to photograph.
I used to carry my camera everywhere, but I usually have a computer with me when I take the bus. A camera bag on top of that would be a little annoying for the commute.

Yeah thats my issue too, working on my web/blog/journal to organize my idea. Also carry my two notebooks. I am trying to find a wallet type case for my camera, I remember seeing around.
Anyway got some idea with hollow vintage television set photo shoot, let see how it goes.
For those users of Flickr does any one get e-mails saying their photo got some prize/nomination for a type of photography organization then they ask if I want to buy professionals prints? Just wondering if its a new scam or old.

I am by no means a skilled or experienced photographer, but I enjoy reading this thread and popping in every once in a while. I've been taking pictures like mad for the past month in some amazingly beautiful locations and although they're nowhere near the caliber of pictures in here I thought I'd post a few. I don't have any experience with post-processing either so these are all just kind of point and click deals.
Parc Guell in Barcelona, designed by Gaudi and one of my favorite places I've ever been, hands-down. My pictures of the place really don't do it justice, but I wanted to expose you to it so you can google better ones and be awed.
From the ceiling of one of the buildings.
From a winery we visited. Not that great, but I didn't know that they put roses in front of the grapes so they'll know whether to expect diseases/plant problems (I don't know what plant problems are) because they hit the roses first.
rose from the Garcia Lorca park in Granada. took a ton of pictures there too, but none of them are really worth posting. gorgeous, however.
cathedral in granada. could not really capture the grandeur.
little spanish town called trevelez.
bread store in said little town.
cross in almunecar
rocks I was obsessed with.
on the grounds of the alhambra in granada. I'll probably be taking a lot more pictures there, my friend and I walked up last weekend for kicks and managed to see a lot without tickets. I was expecting to see the walls of the gates or something. I'm not sure if you need them to walk the grounds or get in the buildings.
on our walk we came across some graffiti that I loved. I most definitely need to go back and take more pictures, there was a whole wall of it.

I have the same issue. I just try to make regular days where I make a point of wandering the city with my camera in hand.
Also I'm sorry but I really, really don't care for the depth of field in that shot. Too little is in focus and it's subtly but persistently frustrating to look at.

They make camera bags that can carry SLR plus lens(es) and laptop and stuff. My favorite is the Urban Disguise bags by ThinkTank. Someday I hope to afford one of these.
I just use a Timbuk2 Laptop Messenger. Fits a laptop, all my school shit and an SLR and 2 lenses pretty easily. I also have a Crumpler 7 Million Dollar Home for when I need all my camera shit with me.
Just decided to hop back into Artist's Corner on a whim and saw this thread, so figured I'd contribute.
Here are a few of my favorite fairly recent shots from New Zealand:
More available on my DevArt page (http://biochip.deviantart.com/). I hope to get some more up soon, especially the ones from Puerto Rico this past summer, but my primary computer where I have them stored isn't cooperating.

Same here. Its a great bag for school but I need something else for trips.
gazamc: Crop it so that you lose most of the sky there. It's not interesting and it actually detracts from the picture a lot I think. Otherwise, I like where you put your focus on the land, and it's a good composition except for all of the extra sky.

Ive been toying with the idea of sticking one of my stock skies in there. I like the length, but the sky is real dull.

That's kind of really lame if you ask me :P
Seriously though, I don't think it's just that the sky is empty. I think there's just too much of it, it makes the photo awkward to look at.
Master_Shake: That one's a lot easier on the eyes. It's really just an ipod on a table, nothing spectacular composition wise, but it's a good clean shot with a pretty much perfect depth of field on it.

I went out today to take pictures for my first assignment in my photography class: High depth of field, and shallow depth of field. I came across a train overpass in a park nearby and found some great graffiti. I ended up taking waaayyy more photos on my digital camera than my 35mm (have to use 35mm for class).
I'm really having trouble taking pictures with the 35mm because i'm afraid that I'm going to waste film, so I end up just taking one picture here, another there, etc. I wish I could just make myself take tons of pictures and not worry about wasting film. i'm also afraid that the pictures I do take are going to be uninteresting.
Anyway, here are some of my digital pictures:
This picture is almost exactly the same as the one I was thinking about using for shallow depth of field:
But I'm wondering if I should use one more like this... however I'm afraid that this one will be uninteresting to most people, even though it has a much shallower depth of field:
I'm going to spoiler these others because i'm going to post several other pictures.
On this next one, I thought the quote they wrote was interesting, but i couldn't find an interesting way to compose the picture. I thought just a straight on picture of the quote would be boring, so I tried to get this conceret slab in front of the wall in with it. I don't feel like I did a very good job though. When I tried to get the concrete slab at an angle, the graffiti was not visible. Any advice?
It was also my first time photographing trains:
any critique would be very helpful! What did I do right? What did I do wrong?

prospiciencence: I'm digging the axe picture too. Maybe it's just because I'm getting some sorta horror vibe off of it, but it's vera nice.

This is a panorama I took from my backyard, pieced together using Autostitch.
I have a high-res version, but I couldn't find a site that would host it for free.
Fire away, I can take harsh criticism!
a picture from a recent vacation
im totally slacking on taking photos. However I recently bought the greates bag ever and can comfortably take my camera everywhere now.
