Recycling CDs

So over the years, all my backup discs, scratched music, and miscellaneous discs have been gathering dust on multiple spools, and I think it's time to get rid of them. Thing is, I don't want to just toss them in the trash, that seems like a waste. Does anyone know if there are specific recycling centers for this? If it helps, I live in the LA area.

I'd love to know about this as well, since I have a 6 foot pile of decade old demo discs in my corner.

There are companies that recycle e-waste around, your local phonebook might have something. Its a really good idea to take all your broken/obsolete electronics and accessories like data storage media there, because most contain toxic materials that are nevertheless recoverable and pretty valuable. A quick google also indicates that it's illegal in california to dump e-waste with normal garbage, which is relevant to the OP at least. Not that it probably ever gets enforced for anyone besides large companies.
