That's because BBcode is only disabled for the jailed person. If someone else quotes them, since that person is not jailed, whatever code is in the quote is properly shown.
well it should only be hidden if it's something offensive, and jailing the person was used as a means to help prevent them from say, goatse'ing other people.
but it should only be but a short time before the same mod who jailed the person would edit the link out entirely, so it wouldnt show up at all
the fact you can see it in the thread summary shouldnt be a problem, because if it's an image that's meant to be hidden, it is only there for a few fleeting moments
#1: Jailed person posts goatse
#2: Dumb person quotes goatse poster's post, making goatse visible
#3: Dumb person is jailed for being dumb and realizes why jailed people can't use images
He's talking about the original post appearing normally within the thread summary that appears as part of the advanced reply editor. Since the context hasn't changed at all, should the restrictions on bbcode be applied in the thread summary as well, instead of just the main view?

Yes, this. I'm not talking about quoting. No quoting happening.
Is this really that big of a deal?
Most of the jailed regret what they did and not being able to create a thread (especially in h/a) is practically all the punishment needed.
Whining about seeing images in a summary just seems trival given the fact that most jailed are just steps away from being banned.

Well if they post something NSFW or a huge picture and it shows up in the Topic Review, then yeah it's kind of a big deal.
They can't edit their posts to get rid of the stuff, either

It appear's inline within the jailed person's post.

No, because only the jailed person's bb code is hidden.
You seem to be finding this hard to grasp.
