Trailer

What?
Super Mario Galaxy is the next canon fully-platforming Mario game in the series, the previous being Super Mario Sunshine, which was met with... mixed reactions. Our eponymous plumber is launched into space in pursuit of Bowser (more princess-kidnapping shennanigans), and must visit and generally dick around in various differently-themed galaxies in order to... well, collect stars. Expect gorgeous visuals, tricky physics-based puzzles (when we say jump around, we mean jump around), a returning cast and intricate worlds. Difficulty is said to be between Mario 64 and SMS 'void level' difficulty.
“Every hundred years a comet passes over the Mushroom Kingdom and rains down magical stars and stardust, and as Princess Peach and the citizens of the kingdom are celebrating the centennial event, Bowser and his legions attack. As Mario attempts to put a stop to Bowser’s shenanigans, but things go awry: the next thing he knows, he finds himself on a mysterious moon high above the Mushroom Kingdom.”

This game just looks more and more incredible. I didn't think I would get as excited for this (even though I <3 Mario) as a more 'epic' big game, like playing Fallout 3 or Bioshock on my PC. But even since E3 it's just steadily moved up my exciteometre to surpass everything else. Even Metroid.

    Holy crap dudes.

I am sooooo glad to see this game appears to be designed like one big playground. It's going to be fun to just dick around in this one, like Mario 64 was.

I am also glad to see classic enemies and a huge variety of environments.

    Must must MUST buy.

Everytime I see this game it gets more and more awesome. Sunshine was a great game, but it kind of felt like miyamoto was stuck in a rut. From the looks of these, he and his team are bursting with ideas once again. Good stuff.

    I was worried about that.

Basically, I found the pictures, but the Mario thread seemed both ad hoc and a little inactive. Anyway, I originally only posted the pictures, but then when nobody seemed to have a problem with that, I sort of developed the OP a bit.

I mean, slap me if I'm out of line...

    PS: it has two threads?

    Fire flower? In 3-D?

ROCK. My dreams have been answered. Assuming it acts as it should.

I'm quickly thinking that switching Mario to the DK Jungle Beat team is one of the best moves they ever made, and that those guys are brilliant.

Let's hope it's all justified in the end. :D

Fire flower in 3D on a console where the controller doubles as a pointer/aiming reticule, no less.

Wow. I'm really glad to see classic enemies and items returning. The 3D games, to me, have never captured the feel of the 2D games. This looks like they are at least attempting to bring it back.
