Yeah I can actually cook decently well, I'm just really lazy and/or can never think of something to cook on my own. If I'm given a specific thing and recipe to cook I can usually do okay, though I'm generally incredibly paranoid about doing something wrong.

    upbringing.

I couldn't eat it, but I had to make it. It had to be good or it was my ass.

Then when I could eat it, I couldn't afford it, so I had make it good through creativity.

Then I could afford it, but couldn't eat it.

Now I can do both, kinda, but it hurts. So it has to be good enough to warrant the pain.

One morning when I was really little my mom wanted my to set up a pot of coffee, so I grabbed the nearest coffee can, put the grounds into a filter, set up the water, yada yada.

Turns out they were keeping the leftover grease in an old coffee can. Who knew.

I've found that cooking pasta over medium high for about 5 minutes past recommended makes it nice and tender.

    Medium high, fool, not high.

Hey, my pasta comes out lovely. And maybe I should clarify that you shouldn't do that with all your pasta, because then, yes it will get mushy. Maybe i have bad pots, too, I dunno, I can never get the right size.

as cliche as it sounds, Alton Brown does an excellent job of not only showing you how to cook, but teaching you the science behind what you're doing.

This makes it so much easier to apply it to other dishes in the future. This is how my grnadmothers taught me. They didn't give me recipies, they gave me the science of what I was doing. When you have that, you don't need recipies, you make your own.

Yeah, I mean, I'm still living at home at the moment, but most days I'm gone from seven in the morning until ten at night, so it's been frozen meals at work and fast food for a while.

Luckily, we tend to grill out on the weekends, but yeah, once I'm done with school I don't want to exist on a diet of fast food.

I could probably make burgers and hot dogs and can definitely figure out a grill.

But somehow I've lost the ability to make frozen pizza (yeah, what the fuck?), tomato soup (again, what?) and grilled cheese sandwhiches.

This is basic shit I've forgotten. Although I can still make pancakes correctly. Maybe if I only cook breakfast foods and use a grill I'll be fine.

    frozen pizza?

you preheat the fucking oven to 400 degrees and then you cook the bastard 21 minutes.

    grilled cheese?

butter in a frying pan throw some velveeta inbetween some bread and use a spatula, alternatively, use a george foreman grill for it
