WHAT IS BRETTSPIELWELT.DE?
Brettspielwelt.de (from here on, BSW) is german, non-profit website for playing various boardgames online. Service is completely free, and each invidual game has got blessing from its respective publisher / developer. Currently BSW features 64 unique board games, featuring such heavy hitters as Bohnhanza, Carcassone, Caylus, Citadels, RA, Settlers of Catan, Pingwin and Thurn and Taxis, and some less known classics such as Attika, Niagra, Tichu and Trans America.
SOUNDS GREAT! HOW DO I START?
BSW's client can be found at address
http://www.brettspielwelt.de/?nation=en, but first you must register for the service. This happens by clicking LOG IN, button, which should activate pop-up window. At the bottom the new window, you should see sentence "Noch kein BrettspielWelt-Mitglied?". This brings you to registration form*.
After you have finished registration, confirmation link will be sent to your email. If confirmation link doesn't work, wait for moment and try again. BSW's servers are sometimes under heavy stress, and as a result of this, registration can't be finished correctly.
* For some strange reason, "Noch kein BrettspielWelt-Mitglied" doesn't translate even if you have english language on. Actual registration page will be english, however.BROWSER OR CLIENT?
I'm not going to discuss about how BSW is used, as using the service should be relatively easy for anyone who has done some online gaming. All BSW's games can be played via browser, or you can download seperate client. I would personally recommend to download client (it is only 2 MBs big), as it can cache most important files to your HD, making games load faster. Furthermore, it has some options that browser based client doesn't have.
LANGUAGE
BSW started as a german project, and as a result of this, most players are german. Fortunately for english speaking users, you can switch clients language to the english from the front page. Unfortunately, Brettspielwelt.de's translation is very poor and borderlines engrish in some cases. However, it is serviceable enough for navigating around the site and finding other players. Do not make fun of the translation, as it is considered extremely rude, and doesn't exactly improve image that many Europeans have about americans (read: assholes).

If there is enough interest I could do some demos for more popular (and simpler) games.
