My father brought me home an old Compaq laptop that they were going to throw out. Turns out it's like a 350mhz AMD-based unit with a 4 gig HDD and about 160MB of ram.
I was going to put a flavor of Linux on it just to dick around with. Any reccomendation on which I should use?
I put Xubuntu on a 600Mhz Pentium 3 laptop with 128MB of RAM, and the lack of RAM sort of strains it. Xubuntu also sort of has a half-bastard feeling to it, with some things not working as well as in regular Ubuntu.
With 160MB, it might be worth a shot, but some of the lighter distros might be worth looking into.

Try Puppy or Mepis.
