[Wii Help!!] Need Game Recommendations
KupotheAvengerDestroyer of Cakeand other deserts.Registered Userregular
I just got my Wii. Joy of joys! And now for more games...
I searched, and didn't find any decent recommendations in past threads (that I didn't have to swim through to read). i'm making a run to Best Buy or Target this afternoon and need some ideas for my first game! Tell me your experiences, the good, the bad and the ugly!
Rayman Raving Rabbits has gotten by FAR the most play time in my Wii, but don't get it if you are looking for a single player game. It is however AMAZING with friends.
I also had Excite Truck. Had. Take that as you will as some peopole think its great, but it definatly wasn't for me.
Twilight Princess
Trauma Center Second Opinion (and New Blood when it comes out)
If you are into DBZ, then Budokai 2
Super Paper Mario
Sonic (it's a hit and miss game)
Alien Harvest has fun co-op
Godfather Blackhand
Mario Strikers Charged
Warioware Smooth Moves (best Warioware out)
and the best game out for the Wii right now... Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition
Also don't forget about the many GC games you can play as well.
Super Paper Mario was great. Mario Strikers is awesome if you have people to play with.
DBZ Tenkaichi 2 was amazingly fun once the controls clicked, but the multiplayer is unfortunately unplayable.
Wario Ware, Sonic, Trauma Center, and Excite Truck are also great.
Trauma Center was incredibly fun to trade off with people when I played it at a friend's house. Just screaming "You can do it doctor! YOU CAN BRING HIM BACK!" at the person playing makes it awesome. Add to that the fact that the gameplay is really fun, and it's a winner.

Buy a Wii Points card or two, and go crazy with the VC. Pick up a classic controller while you're at it!
I heard from Joystiq that the Wii has no good games out.
I generally laughed at that statement. You rock Rolo.
If you didn't know anything about the Wii and you went to that site, you'd think there wasn't SHIT for games for the "game" system.

Ok on the current consideration list are:
Mario Strkyers (close second, because I love me some violent football arcady action)
Trauma Center
Warioware (currently in the lead)
Big Brain Academy (I played it on the DS, and it was pretty entertaining)
Off list:
I'll be borrowing Excite Truck and Resident Evil 4 from some friends who've played them into the floor, so they're currently off the buy list.
Must buy:
Metroid 3 (been drooling over the videos since I DLed them this morning)
MySims (Animal Crossing + More?!)
My primary purpose for getting the Wii was to turn my girlfriend (one of the uninitiated non-gamers in my life), to the great joy that is...gaming. She loves WiiSports, but I'm in dire need of more that will keep her among the fold. MySims has a lot of potential, since she's a customizer nut, but is there anything else? Strykers has some potential, especially since I'll probably have plenty of people here that are down to destroy me at some footballin action, but will she be tempted to play?

She'll fall in love with Warioware.
I guarentee it.8-)
And she'll play strikers.
It has all the zany mario fun that people fall in love with.

Strikers is awesome, especially with friends, but to get your GF in the fold Warioware (also great with friends) and Big Brain will ease her in gently.

Rayman Raving Rabbits best multiplayer game wii has period.
Rayman Raving Rabbids was so terrible that it made me vomit blood.
It was hands down the worst game in my Wii library, and I had to get rid of it ASAP before it's suckiness opened an unholy tear to the netherworld for demons to come through. I NEVER EVER trade in games, but I flipped it like an omelette made from soured eggs. Even though I picked the game up for $20 and I traded it in for $23, I still feel ripped off.
tl;dr: Stay far far away from Rayman, and any other shit-filled cash-port Ubisoft game.
Good suggestions include Elebits, Sonic, Mario Party, Wario Ware, Mario Strikers and Trauma Center.

I just realized I had a gift card for best buy...
So my ability has expanded to two games.
Warioware
Strykers*
Big Brain
It looks like it'll be Wario and Strykers. Just how bad is the ADD on warioware?
It looks like it'll be Wario and Strykers. Just how bad is the ADD on warioware?
Wario Ware and Strikers are both amazing, amazing games. The ADD frenetic pace of Wario Ware is really in a class of its own; the closest analogue I can think of right now is the pacing of Geometry Wars, where it starts really slow but then as you get better it ramps up in difficulty and speed and by the end you're completely in the zone and blazing through the game and always coming back to find a higher score and get another fix.
And in terms of getting the GF to play, Strikers is great because, like Wii Sports (Tennis, at least, which gets by far the most playtime in my house), you can play co-op against the computer. People who don't typically game find this proposition a lot less threatening, especially if the person in question is my wife. I just sold one friend of mine on buying Strikers because I wouldn't shut up about it, and now he and his wife play together and love it.
Another vote for RE4 - a co-worker of mine at work never plays any FPS or Third Person Shooter before and doesn't own any console before, but he picked up RE4 and is now addicted to it.
Strange thing is, after a couple of hours of gameplay, he's better in RE4 than a couple of other guys who usually play Halo/GRAW/Gears.
The Wiimote really makes a difference for the game for non-gamers.
If you like some RPG and Mario goodness, Super Paper Mario is also a treat. Again, if you like RPGs however. It's not a platformer by any means.
I'd suggest to stay away from Warioware unless you have friends who are used to Japanese style humour (anime fans and the like).
The game was a bomba in a party I brought it in.
If you want a party game, a better suggestion would be Rayman or Mario Party.
I don't think Big Brain Academy is worth the $50 purchase, although I think it's a must have at $30 or less. Strikers is a definite must too by now, an obvious choice based on PAers.
If you like some RPG and Mario goodness, Super Paper Mario is also a treat. Again, if you like RPGs however. It's not a platformer by any means.
I actually disagree with this somewhat. I hate RPGs generally and love Super Paper Mario. It's really more a combination of Mario and Zelda than an RPG, and there are certainly a lot of platforming aspects to it.
It certainly doesn't feature any of the aspects of RPGs I find most loathsome, like grinding, random battles, turn-based combat, etc.
Pffft, don't listen to Arde. Warioware was a huge hit at the three parties I took it to, and none of them were huge fans of anime.
Warioware is ADD... but I mean that as a high compliment. Have you ever played a game in the series? You'll get a microgame at random, which gives you an insanely simple task. You have five seconds to figure out what it is, do it, and move on. Don't worry, it's so simple most non-gamers can figure it out very easily. And for some reason, the rush of random video games make it much, much more fun than you'd have just playing the games by themselves.
Also, Rayman is pretty fun, especially with the bunny personalities. You get to hammer throw a cow (that moos in horror in the process), beat the shit out of a bunny with a claw hammer, stuff bunnies full of food, etc. It's fun, though not perfect, and kind of iffy for multiplayer. Warioware is better.
I should add the sequel is designed from the ground up for simultaneous multiplayer.

Let the madness ensue. Anyone want to be my Wii friend?
Good choice! I still can't get enough of this game
I need a new Wii game to fill up the void that is the long waiting for Z: PH, SMG, MP3, BWii ... so I thought about picking up Wario Ware. I'm mostly playing singleplayer-games on my Wii and from time to time some Strikers matches with my brother, would it still be a worthwhile purchase?

Its ADD intensive. One of my good friends has it, and its only hilarious when played with friends. I only considered it because its fun to entertain the thought of my girlfriend doing the "big cheese" (not a dirty reference) minigames.
Filling time by ADDing yourselves with friendly violent soccer before finally ADDing yourselves with friendly violent Mario style combat tournament?
Good choice, sir. Good choice.
Yeah, Mario and company have some agression issues to work out.
and I love bein the therapist...
Trauma Center is actually a big hit with my younger sister and her girlfriends. It's easy to sell them on the concept of "It's like the Operation board game" and from there they pretty much take over. It's a very good game for people who are turned off by guns and mutants and cyboring aliens with exploding breasts.

Hell, if you've only played on the Gamecube, I'd say it's worth the 30 bux.
The rest of the recommendations are good also. Save some money for Metroid, supposedly it's got the best use of FPS controls for the Wii to date.
That's weird because I heard that from Kotaku too!
Buy a Wii Points card or two, and go crazy with the VC. Pick up a classic controller while you're at it!
