The facial animations and expressions alone (which I really liked from FF3DS, although I wasn't a fan of the game in general) have me excited for how FF4DS will play out.
But.. they're both making virtually the exact same expression
and it's generic angst
from Square
they're taking the shit that made FFVII-FFX2 lame and tacking it onto games that used to be good
Pheezer on
IT'S GOT ME REACHING IN MY POCKET IT'S GOT ME FORKING OVER CASH
CUZ THERE'S SOMETHING IN THE MIDDLE AND IT'S GIVING ME A RASH
You're right. Cloud and Tidus were both remarkably unique characters whose likes I have never seen in works of fiction prior to or since those magnificent games.

Let's throwdown 7-10 right here.
Cloud is fairly unique for an RPG hero. A man living a lie coming to terms with himself. It's not too bad.
Squall is an emo loner stereotype. He has a few excuses, none better than being a teenager. Also the whole witch hunting, memory wiping, abandoment thing.
Zidane, herald of a mysterious race of monkey tailed souless dolls? Not too shabby either.
Tidus, time traveling dream of a dead civilization's ghost? Neato.
Hey now, I'm not defending the writing/characterization of these games (or any JRPG, really.) There is a difference between "original" and "not full of angst," that's all.

Edit:
How very chock-full of angst.
Some fools seem to mistake characters who show emotion as 'angsty' or 'emo'. They'd rather play as a muscle bound bald guy who just says "eat shit and die!" all the time.
Zidane was a nice break from the PS1 generation of FF main protags - he was pretty cheerful and happy-go-lucky a lot of the time aside from that one funk in the 3rd disc - and he snapped out of it pretty quick.

Hey uh
I dunno if you ever played FFIV before
But Cecil isn't exactly Captain Smiles and Sunshine

But the 'funk' was completely understandable considering what happened.
I get pissed off at people bitching about Squall, Tidus or whoever. I don't want to play as a god-damn badass in every game I play, I like that Squall's personality is completely different from any of the other main characters in the series.
Variety is a good thing when you're playing a series that's had over 20 different installments.
Meh on FFIV. It's the same game for the GBA, but with 3D visuals. Big whoop.
Now, DQIV, on the other hand, is something I can get behind.
But....DQIV is the same game as in SNES, but with better visuals...
Er, was there even a DQ4 Remake for the SNES?
I know there was a DQ4 remake for the PSX, which used the DQ7 engine and added another 25% to the game or so. It's more likely they will base the DS remake on that.

The only Dragon Quest 4 property on the SNES that I know of the the Torneko's Mysterious Dungeon game.
Another question.
To settle a debate with someone.
They think that Dragon Quest is immature and for children, that Final Fantasy is infinitely more mature. This is based on DQ8 because neither of us have played any of the others. I think that FF and DQ are on equal footing, really. Neither one is very "mature" and neither one is very "childish". They're cute and simple stories full of cliches about good and evil. Then again I personally don't stand by that too strongly. The games vary alot, even within themselves. I just want to hear someone else's opinion on it because we don't know anyone else who's 'gamer enough' to make a call.
Maturity eh? They are pretty similiar until about four or so, when Final Fantasy jumps slightly ahead, only to be shut the fuck up by DQ 5.
Remember this; as far as Japan goes, Final Fantasy is Sonic to Enix's Mario. FF VI was an attempt to equal DQ V in storytelling, and while an excellent game, is somewhat overwrought.
Personal opinion mind you:
DQ 1 FF 1=Wash
DQ 2 FF 2=FF, but DQ 2 is 10x the game it is.
DQ 3 FF 3=DQ
DQ 4 FF 4=FF
DQ 5 FF 5=DQ
DQ 6 FF 6=FF
and so on. Is DQ overall less "mature"? Possibly, even probably. Does FF try to hard to be "mature"? Most certainly.
This is what I thought. Considering that I haven't played the majority of DQ games, I assumed that just like Final Fantasy the series varied from game to game so it wasn't really a viable argument to say one was 'this way' and the other was 'that way'.
I have an impossible time trying to convince him that FF came AFTER DQ and FF is the clone. That FF plays second fiddle to DQ, while I'm guessing it's a different situation now than earlier in their lives.
Having never played FFIV I'm wondering if this is really the version I want to play. A lot of the reason why I loved Final Fantasy VI was the graphics, the SNES synth sound, etc. It feels like the golden days of gaming.
I'm not sure I really want to play one of these games remade in 3d...they sort of belong in two dimensions...if that makes any sense. Remakes in general don't sit well with me. Seems like a waste of resources that could be put towards making a game that people haven't played before.
I am, however, a whore for Final Fantasy VI. So if there's ever a remake of that I will be, grudgingly, all over it.

I'm going to make up a random remake order predicting through no scientific method how Square's next seven years will look.
IV, V, VI (on the Wii) VIII (on the DS) IX (on cell phones) I, II, IV again, III again, X, X-2, and then VII on the xbox 720.
DQ4 is arguably the best NES RPG ever. It took the gameplay of DQ3, refined it, and had a unique chapter system where in Chapters 1-4, you control different groups of adventurers, and in Chapter 5, you control the main hero and the characters from the previous chapters all converge (various Wild Arms & Suikoden games have done something similar, but DQ4 did it first and arguably the best).
According to a GAF member who was translating the text from the article, one of the new additions to the gameplay of FF4r is that characters will be able to pick up some of the special commands from the party members who have left.
Thus, we see Rosa and Rydia using Palom and Porom's Twin Magic command, and Cecil using Edward's Music command

Agreed, though I'd say the great flaw of Chapter 5 is that you can't manually control the non-main hero party members, you can only guide them with pre-determined AI scripts. I'm hoping the remake for DS will correct that.

From my understanding, the Japanese-only PS1 remake of the game allowed you to manually control everyone so I'd say there's a good chance that we'll see that feature in the DS version as well. Hopefully they include all of the additions that the PS1 version brought (most importantly, I'd like to try the new post-game scenario).

Apparently you can now assign the moves from the members of your party that have left. Neat, I guess.
Also, DQ IV has a Japanese release date. Late next month. Shibby.
Hey, wait. Is that a combo attack!?

Dunno, does look a little strange. I'm willing to deal with a little bizarreness in my FF IV redux.
That'd be Feb 2009, of course. Because Japan hates us.
I'm imagining a scene rendered in those graphics for when Rydia rejoins in the Dark World, and it is amazing.

Quit complaining or they'll be no fifth remake. I'm happy with the crazy cracker ass Amano + FF III art thing they got going on. You should be too.

A set of C's for the DS
I believe in the psx remake of DQIV you could control everyone, ala DQVII and VIII. I see no reason why it wouldn't hold true for the DS version.
Hi, I'm Xenogears of Bore, and I approve of this statement.
Edit: I just realized I used an unnecessary apostrophe in "C's". Ah well.
