These DQIV scans are hot. I can't wait for the game. Isn't it supposed to be one of the best in the DQ series?
People that have played 5 and 6 vouch heavily for them, but by far 4 is considered the best of the NES ones. It's still the standard by which I measure all other RPGs.
That trailer above was ... wow. The first time I've really seen a lot of it in motion, but holy shit that looks beautiful. To me, making these classic RPGs portable and breathing new life into them easily eclipses 95 percent of all other gaming news this generation.

I wouldn't go as far to say 95%, but I do agree on the point. Classic, updated, portable. That is all you need to get me excited.
IV is great. A bunch of sidestories that lead into this gigantic fifth story. V is great too. Bringing up 95% again, I believe that is the chance that IV-VI make it to the US. Dragon Warrior 1+2 on the GB, and III on the GBC did decently, and more recently the four FF Advance titles and FF III DS, so at this point its all about waiting for a release date.

Gawd, I hope so. DQ4 was a fantastic RPG, especially for the NES, and I was crushed when the translation of the PSOne update got canned.
Oh wow. Just watched the DQIV trailer. The battle animations are better than friggin DQ8 on the PS2. That is impressive. So far everything I've seen of it just blows FFIV out of the water. The FFIII engine never terribly impressed me, not even when it has been upgraded to the point of FFIV. I'll probably still end up buying it, but not for a while.
Yeah, just watched the DQIV trailer. Holy shit. I mean, holy shit. That looks amazing. I really hope it'll see release over here so I can finally lay hands on a copy of DQIV.
I'm a little unsure about FFIV though. I'm in agreement that the DS-FF engine just doesn't quite hack it for the material and that the characters end up looking slightly ridiculous, although the way they're managing to lip-synch now is really impressive. This "learn new attacks from old party members" thing is also a bit of a turn-off, as it makes the characters more vanilla. I always liked the fact that FFIV made you work with what you had, but I may be the minority in that.
I'll likely buy both, admittedly, but DQIV can't come here fast enough.
From everything I've seen of FF IV DS, it looks like an improved version of FF III. FF III looked good enough. Kain looks like a steampunk Batman.
They may be right about this though. I think the DQ IV engine does look very nice, both the 3D world map and the incredible battle screen animations.
My problem is that FFVIII and FFIX still look really good even today, mostly due to the pre-rendered backgrounds. But FFIII? As it is, the character models look slightly better than FFVII's and the backgrounds look mediocre.
Actually, I don't know why so many people bitch about PS1-era graphics but let the DS's graphics fly under the radar. Don't get me wrong, I don't really mind the graphics in FFIII but then again, I can quite easily go back and play FFVII as well.

FF III is pretty in places. Sometimes it looks as good as say Chrono Cross, but most of the time it looks somewhere in between FF 7-8.
Some games coming soon on the DS look stupid good. ASH, Tales of Innocence, DQ IX, KH.

I agree with you about FFIX still looking good today, but not about FFVIII. That game went for too realistic a style, which required more detail than the PS1 could provide. There were times in that game where human bodies did not look like human bodies.
DS graphics fly under the radar because it's the DS. Nobody expects it to have great graphics. People know what they're getting into when they play DS. If you can tell what the graphics are supposed to represent, then the graphics are considered good. It's kind of like the NES in that regard. Sure, PSP graphics far outstrip DS graphics, but seriously... Nobody plays that thing.

I hate to say it, but I am forced to buy FFIVDS. FFIV is one of my favourite games ever and the first RPG I really got into, so it's kind of special for me so I just have to play it in as many different forms as possible. Yet I don't think it looks all that good...
I really don't know why I haven't posted until now.

Hilariously enough, the Chairman from Iron Chef is one of the voice actors in the project...
The more I see, the more I wish Kain and Cecil didn't look so ridiculous. Everything else looks so nice. Kain at least looks decent in the cutscenes, but I'm not a fan of either of Cecil's designs.
The tipping point for a purchase of this may very well be the voice acting. I have a fair amount of faith that the English dialogue will be excellent.
Rosa's plenty thick for my tastes. Classic White Mage is tough to beat, true, but she's putting in some effort.
Rosa is also pleasing to the eye, but really, all I can truly see is Adult Rydia summoning the Mist Dragon hotness. Everything else just becomes a kind of dim fog once that starts up.
Hey, they wouldn't render it in CGI if we weren't meant to appreciate it. Seems just as natural to me as a enjoying a picture or drawing of an attractive woman.

EDIT: actually, it looks like the sprites are just for battles? the town screens in mathews post are definately that 3D engine

1up yours are a bunch of graphic whoring cock gobblers. Not in the good way either.
But they said that DQIV DS looks good. I think that FFIV looks better than DQIV.
And I generally enjoy 1Up Yours. They rarely express my tastes, but that's kinda why I listen to it. To hear other ideas.
Someone told me to listen to them awhile ago. That was the impression that I get.

Then I'm coming for your children.

So did I.
That's why I clicked on it.
In other news, FUCK YEAH SEAKING I've been missing some good Dragon Warrior action.
New FF IV trailer
Also, I see no thicker white mage. More lies.

There's a reason it folds. :winky:
It's funny, I know she's in a lot of stuff, but I can only think of her as Ms. Keane and Princess Morbucks from the Powerpuff Girls.
