Okay, so I'm on a 12" G4 iBook and I upgraded to CS2 so that I could open the RAW files from my Digital Rebel XT. Because obviously it would be insane to allow people to continue to use the previous version of photoshop with a new file format. Those newfangled file formats clearly require full version upgrades.
Anyhow, it's sluggish. Working on one photo at a time is fine, but Bridge is a pain in the ass and I'd like to have say four photos open without slow down. Working at 175 dpi with 8x10" photos.
I could get more RAM but I'm less than thoroughly convinced that it would solve the problem. I currently have 768 MB in there. So I'm sort of looking at the MacBooks and I have a few questions for owners.
First off, is it worth it to go Pro or is the standard line enough?
Does the videocard really have any impact? Based on what I know about programming and PC hardware I'd imagine it's largely irrelevant, but who knows with Adobe. Hopefully one of you.
Assuming I get the minimum RAM configuration, what's the hard wired stick's size? Or do they no longer pull that prick move? What do you literally find inside the case when you get the minimum amount of RAM is what I need to know.
And finally how much RAM is enough for this. I don't care about games, I just want Photoshop and Bridge to work properly. I'll likely upgrade to CS3 soon too (being a student is nice for a few things) unless someone is about to say that CS4 is about to come out. I don't feel that CS2 vs. CS was worth it, but the vast improvement in lighting options when converting RAW images are sort of compelling.

And there's no need to jump on his balls then turn this thread into your personal playground. If you're not going to answer his question then don't exacerbate the problem.
